A first set of pictures of the new BMW 1-series sedan have surfaced on the web from China. The new pictures show BMW’s smallest sedan from all angles. BMW had released a single image of this new car back in July 2016.

The new BMW 1-series sedan borrows much of its styling from the compact sedan concept, but gets notable differences in design like the addition of fog lamps on the front bumpers, new alloy wheels and wing mirrors and minor tweaks to the trim on the exterior. The images reveal the car’s rear styling for the first time. The BMW 1-series sedan gets a familiar look on the back as well, with styling reminiscent of the larger BMW 3-series family.

Three engine options will be on offer, a base 118i with a 1.5-litre turbo three-cylinder motor, a mid-spec 120i featuring a 192hp 2.0-litre turbo petrol and a top-spec 125i with a 231hp version of the same engine. The sedan is 4,456mm long, 1,803mm wide and 1,446mm tall, and gets a wheelbase of 2,670mm. This makes it wider and taller but shorter than its rival, the Mercedes CLA sedan. The 1-series sedan, however, measures the same as the Audi A3 sedan but is a tad wider and higher.

The carmaker has said that the new 1-series sedan is a China-specific model as of now and will be manufactured by the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture, as its fifth locally produced model. It is also working on a more stylish four-door coupé based on this sedan that is likely to be badged the 2-series Gran Coupé.
