Audi has kicked off the new year with a bang. It has just launched the R8 LMX, the most powerful version of the Audi supercar, at Rs 2.97 crore (ex-showroom, Mumbai). It comes equipped with laser headlight technology, the first ever production car in India to have this feature.

The Audi R8 LMX is powered by an uprated version of the naturally aspirated 5.2-litre V10 petrol motor found in the R8 V10 Plus and here, it makes 562bhp (20bhp more than in the R8 V10 Plus). Power is sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The carmaker claims a 0-100kph sprint time of 3.4seconds and a 320kph top speed.

Audi had revealed the R8 LMX last year in May but rival BMW had trumped its move by starting deliveries of the laser-light equipped i8 in June to international markets. In India, however, Audi seems to have won the race.
