Kallenius, who was speaking at the Geneva motor show unveil of the Mercedes A45 AMG, said that Mercedes’ performance offshoot would have 30 models on sale by the time AMG celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.

With the model expansion, AMG expects a 50 percent increase in annual sales — from 20,000 units at present to 30,000 units by 2017.

The A45 AMG is the first model to be launched under the expansion, and Kallenius described the car as “a vehicle to open a completely new gateway to the AMG world at an attractive entry price that will make an AMG attainable for new target groups”.
