New Alto K10.

The new Maruti Alto K10’s launch has been confirmed for November 3. The car is based on the Alto 800, but other than the doors, all sheet metal works have been altered. The design is far more effervescent as compared to the old Alto K10. On the inside too, the design elements are bolder and there is slightly more space.

The most important change lies in the mechanicals. The 67bhp, 1.0-litre K10 engine has been tuned to deliver better fuel efficiency and, along with the five-speed manual gearbox, the Alto K10 now comes with an automated manual transmission (AMT) as well. In petrol guise, manual- and AMT-equipped, the new Alto K10 delivers an ARAI-claimed fuel economy figure of 24.07kpl; the CNG variant makes 32.26km per kg (ARAI).

It goes without saying that Maruti will focus strongly on pricing the new Alto K10 very aggressively. Already a very popular car, the new K10, now with an AMT option, is likely to be a hit amongst the masses. Upon launch, it’ll go against the likes of the Hyundai Eon 1.0, Datsun Go and the Chevrolet Spark.
