Maruti has just launched the all new Alto K10 at a starting price of Rs 3.06 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). But how does it stack up against the Hyundai Eon 1.0, Datsun Go and the Chevrolet Spark? We have compared the specifications and prices of all the four entry-level hatchbacks on paper.
Under the hood
The new Alto K10 gets a 998cc, three-cylinder engine which makes 67bhp and 9.17kgm of torque. It has been tweaked for better fuel efficiency and gets drive-by-wire technology. The Hyundai Eon 1.0 also gets a similar sized 998cc, three-cylinder motor which is good for 68bhp and 9.6kgm of torque. In comparison, the Chevrolet Spark gets driven by a 995cc, four-cylinder engine which generates 62.13bhp and 9.2kgm of torque. The Datsun Go gets the biggest displacement engine - its 1198cc, three-cylinder engine produces 67bhp and 10.6kgm.
Apart from the standard five-speed manual transmission, the new Alto K10 is the only car that also gets an automated manual transmission (AMT) and a CNG option.
Space on offer
The new Alto K10 gets a 2360mm wheelbase. In comparison, the Chevrolet Spark gets a 2345mm wheelbase which is 15mm less than that of the new Alto K10. The Hyundai Eon 1.0 gets a 2380mm wheelbase (20mm more than the Alto K10), while the Datsun Go has the longest wheelbase at 2450mm (90mm longer than the Alto K10).
The new Alto K10 measures 3545mm in length, 1515mm in width and 1475mm in height. In terms of length, the new Alto K10 is a good 50mm longer than the Chevrolet Spark, 30mm longer than the Hyundai Eon 1.0, but a substantial 240mm shorter than the Datsun Go. In terms of width, the new Alto K10 is wider only than the Spark by 20mm. The Eon 1.0 and the Go are wider than the new Alto K10 by 35mm and 120mm respectively. In terms of height, the new Alto K10 is 10mm shorter than the Go, 35mm shorter than the Eon 1.0, and 43mm shorter than the Chevrolet Spark.
