The Volvo EX30’s introductory price of Rs 39.99 lakh is well priced compared to rivals in the entry-level luxury EV space, such as the Hyundai Ioniq 5, BYD Sealion 7, BMW iX1, Kia EV6 and the Mini Countryman Electric. Even after EX30 prices increase to Rs 41 lakh, the new Volvo EV will be the most affordable entry-level luxury EV.

Volvo EX30 range, battery and performance

EX30 gets 69kWh battery with up to 480km (WLTP) range

Unlike the model abroad, which gets two battery options, the India-spec EX30 has the larger capacity 69kWh lithium-ion unit, which has a WLTP range of 480km on a single charge. The battery powers a rear axle-mounted electric motor that produces 272hp and 343nm of torque. Volvo claims a 0-100kph time of 5.3 seconds and a top speed limited to 180kph. The EX30 comes with a one-pedal driving option, which sets the brake regeneration to allow the EV to come to a halt without the use of the brake pedal.

The Swedish brand provides an 11kW wallbox charger (0-100 percent SOC takes a claimed 7 hours) and an 8-year/1.6km battery warranty with the EX30 as standard. The small EV also comes with a 3-year warranty, 3-year Volvo Service Package and 3 years of roadside assistance, along with a 5-year subscription to digital services that the company calls ‘Connect Plus’.

Volvo EX30 exterior design and interior features

EX30 is marginally smaller than the Volvo EX40

The EX30 has a clear family resemblance with the flagship EX90 SUV, from the closed-off grille to Volvo’s signature ‘Thor’s Hammer’ LED headlights, which come with active high beam assist. Unlike the marginally larger EX40, the EX30 looks less upright and has a more crossover-like design. The 19-inch 5-spoke aero wheels are standard fit for the India model, and buyers can choose from 5 colour options. Volvo claims a boot space of 318 litres (expandable with 60:40 split-folding rear seats) and a 7-litre frunk.

EX30 feature highlights include dual-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, 12.3-inch touchscreen

The interior layout of the EX30 is similar to that of its larger siblings, and the small EV sports a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen with in-built Google at the centre of the dashboard, a new three-spoke steering wheel, Nordico upholstery, and a 9-speaker 1040W Harman Kardon sound system. Other feature highlights include a fixed panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, 8-way powered front seats, a powered tailgate, and inductive and wireless smartphone chargers.

The EX30’s safety suite includes Level 2 ADAS features – such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control and rear cross traffic alert – 7 airbags, a 360-degree camera and a blind spot monitor.

All prices, ex-showroom, India.
