It seems like demand has outstripped supply for Skoda’s new sporty executive sedan, the first lot of cars that consisted of around 250 units have been called for. The next round of deliveries is expected to take place in early 2018.

The performance-focused Octavia RS was launched on September 1, 2017, at Rs 24.62 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), though bookings had opened early in August. Skoda India reportedly has a decent order back log for the model.

While the Czech brand had offered an RS-spec Octavia in India with every generation of the model, this generation features a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol in place of the 1.8-litre unit. The 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, engine develops 230hp at 6,200rpm, 350Nm of torque between 1,500rpm and 4,600rpm, and sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Compared to the standard model, the RS looks far more aggressive thanks to the body kit, blacked-out trim bits, larger 17-inch alloy wheels, steel exhaust tips and a tailgate spoiler. On the inside, it gets a new touchscreen infotainment system, nine airbags, ESP and a park-assist system.

While the model does not have any direct rivals, the price undercuts imported performance hatches such as the Volkswagen Polo GTI and Mini Cooper S, while offering comparable levels of performance.
