Porsche will launch the third-generation Cayenne SUV in India in June 2018. It will come to our market with a range of engine options.
Porsche has not revealed details of the diesel Cayennes, as yet but a 3.0-litre, V6 oil-burner will, as before, be the mainstay of the range. A 4.0-litre, V8 Cayenne S Diesel could also be offered – just as on the outgoing model.
The Cayenne range in India is also expected to include a few petrol engine options. The Cayenne and Cayenne S, both run newly-developed V6 petrol engines which send power to all four wheels via a new eight-speed automatic gearbox. The new 3.0-litre turbocharged V6 unit from the Panamera puts out 340hp and 450Nm of torque in the standard Cayenne, 40hp and 50Nm of torque higher than the earlier model. The Cayenne S receives a new, more powerful 2.9-litre turbo V6 putting out 440hp (up 20hp) and 550Nm of torque.
Topping the petrol engine range is the Cayenne Turbo, powered by a 550hp 4.0-litre V8 – up 30hp over its predecessor.
Notably, Porsche has confirmed that it is planning to introduce the Cayenne hybrid in India by August-September. Globally, the hybrid range is touted to include a pair of plug-in models running the same petrol-electric powertrain from the 462hp Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and 680hp Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. However, it is not confirmed which version will be brought to India.
The latest Cayenne bears a strong resemblance to its predecessor in terms of exterior styling. However, the interior is all-new, with a dashboard that looks very similar to that on the latest Panamera.
The new Cayenne is a vital component of Porsche’s aim to grow sales in India; the Cayenne has been the carmaker’s bestseller in our market from launch. In fact, India is one of the few markets in the world where the larger and more expensive Cayenne outsells the Macan SUV.
