  • Will come with three powertrain options

Citroen has taken the wraps off the all-new C4, a new high-riding hatchback that replaces the C4 Cactus in the brand's global line-up.  The French manufacturer has released the first images and preliminary details of the new model.

What's new on the Citroen C4?

It's a fresh replacement to the C4 Cactus. Just like its predecessor, the new C4 continues with its crossover-ish stance but with an more slanted coupe-like roofline replete with some quirky styling bits the brand is known for.

What else is known about the new C4?

Citroen is yet to release specifications and engine details for the new model, however, we do know that it will be sold with petrol, diesel and electric powertrains, making it the first family hatchback in parent firm PSA Group's portfolio to offer a zero-emissions variant.  The new C4 features Citroen’s Advanced Comfort programme, which includes progressive hydraulic bump stops, a focus on comfortable seats and a “bright, soothing” interior. The company said these qualities are amplified in the electric ë-C4, thanks to its “quiet operation, smoothness and driving sensation”.

The interior sees a significant upgrade from its predecessor, with more upmarket materials and a larger, wider touchscreen. The reintroduction of physical dials for heating controls addresses the complaints of Citroen’s existing system which allows control via the screen only. The company will announce specifications for the eC4, the C4 petrol and diesel in the coming weeks.

Will the new C4 come to India?

India plans for the new C4 are not known yet but the French brand will enter our market with the C5 Aircross early next year. The flagship model will keep Citroen dealerships in the country ticking until more mass-market offerings are brought along.  Additionally, the launch of its first vehicle “designed, developed and made in India” is on track and slated for later next year. This new model, touted to be a compact SUV (codenamed C21), will boast high localisation levels and will carry a competitive price tag in India.
