Mercedes Benz India has posted a year-on-year growth of 13 percent in the January to June 2023 period with sales of 8,528 units, making this its best-ever half-yearly sales. This growth has been achieved without one of its most popular models in the core luxury segment, the GLC SUV, whose second-gen model will be launched later in July.

  2. Top-end vehicles such as S-Class, GLS see high demand
  3. EV sales grew 10 times, albeit on a low base

Mercedes-Benz India half-yearly sales

In the second quarter (April-June 2023), the carmaker's order book carried on the strong momentum of the first quarter, with bookings crossing the 3,500-unit mark as the company continues to ramp up to cater to high demand. The sales in Q2 were also the best ever at 3,831 units – growing 8 percent over the same period in 2022.

Reviewing the half-yearly sales performance, Santosh Iyer, MD of Mercedes Benz India, said, "This record sales performance is driven by the high desirability of the brand, an attractive portfolio, increased availability of cars, and successful implementation of the ‘Retail of the Future’ business model. Our focus remains on elevating the customer experience and continuing to grow the Top-End Vehicles, which outpaces other segments. We are excited about the remaining quarters, having lined up some of the most-awaited luxury vehicles for our customers, starting with the new-generation GLC.”

Mercedes-Benz India sales split

It was an all-around strong performance with the battery-electric vehicle sales growing 10 times albeit on a low base, with the addition of new models like the EQB and EQS, while the top-end vehicle segment, which is priced above Rs 1.5 crore, grew over 50 percent in the first six months of this calendar year, comprising over 2,000 units of the total sales.

The key highlights for Mercedes Benz in the first half of the year were that it continues to witness a very high demand for the GLS, S-Class, S-Class Maybach, GLS Maybach and AMG G 63 in particular. The LWB E-Class remained the single highest-selling model for the company, while the GLE was the bestselling SUV and the new C-Class continues to drive demand and contribute significant volumes to Mercedes Benz's overall performance.
