On Independence Day, Mahindra unveiled its INGLO electric architecture and five electric SUVs based on it. While the first of those electric SUVs is set to arrive only in December 2024, the carmaker will launch the electric version of the XUV300 – christened the XUV400 – on September 8.

Mahindra XUV400 will be longer than XUV300

Spy pictures of the electric SUV that surfaced last month gave a clear indication that the production-spec XUV400 will carry over the design of the eXUV300 concept that was showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, unlike the ICE-powered XUV300, the XUV400 will be longer than four metres (around 4.2 meters), as the sub-4 metre rule for lower tax bracket does not apply to electric vehicles.

Apart from the added length, the XUV400 will distinguish itself from the XUV300 with elements like new headlights with integrated DRLs, a closed-off front grille, a new design for the tail-lamps and a reprofiled tailgate.

Mahindra XUV400 could get ADAS features

Not much is known about the XUV400’s powertrain at the moment, but Mahindra is likely to equip it with a single front-wheel-drive electric motor making around 150hp, and it is likely to come with two battery pack options.

In terms of equipment, Mahindra is expected to add a larger touchscreen infotainment system featuring the brand's Adreno X infotainment system. The carmaker could also equip the XUV400 with ADAS features.

Mahindra XUV400 will rival Tata Nexon EV

The XUV400 will kick-start Mahindra’s EV strategy and will be followed by the first of its born electric SUVs towards the end of 2024. The model will go up against the Tata Nexon EV, which currently has no direct rivals, and will be the entry point into Mahindra’s upcoming range of EVs.
