Lamborghini Urus SUV to be revealed on December 4

Lamborghini has confirmed it will reveal the Urus SUV on December 4 before production begins at the brand's Sant’Agata Bolognese site in Italy.

The carmaker's first SUV since the LM002 (1986-1993) is likely to go on sale in 2018. Like the Audi Q7 and Bentley Bentayga with which it shares a platform, the Urus will also feature 48V-powered active anti-roll suspension.

According to sources, the 4.0-litre V8 motor is likely to churn out around 650hp and almost 1000Nm of peak torque, with 600Nm arriving at just 1500rpm. The SUV is expected to come with a Torsen torque vectoring system and could also get rear wheel steer to aid with handling.

The SUV range will also feature the brand's first plug-in hybrid, according to R&D chief Maurizio Reggiani. It will be the only hybrid variant in the line-up and will be offered alongside a 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 Urus. The plug-in hybrid model will arrive two years after the launch of the standard Urus with a claimed electric-only range of about 50km. The battery pack is will weigh between 150kg and 180kg.

Lamborghini is also said to be developing a right-hand-drive Urus that is slated to launch in India early next year and could be priced between Rs 2.9 crore and Rs 3.4 crore (ex-showroom).
