Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, Hi-Lander, mu-X refreshed to meet RDE norms; get updated features

The three models get new safety and tech as standard along with cosmetic updates.

Japanese automaker Isuzu has updated its line-up of passenger vehicles – the D-Max V-Cross, Hi-Lander and mu-X – to conform with the RDE norms that went into effect on April 1, 2023. Both lifestyle pickup trucks and the premium SUV have received cosmetic changes, and new safety and convenience features. With the introduction of these updates, Isuzu has updated the prices for all three models.

  2. D-Max V-Cross gets ESP, Hill-Start Assist and Traction Control as standard
  3. Idle start-stop system now standard on automatic variants

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, Hi-Lander, mu-X technical updates, powertrain

All three models continue to be powered by the same 163hp, 360Nm, 1.9-litre turbo diesel engine. In order to meet the Real Driving Emissions regulations, the D-Max V-Cross, Hi-Lander and the mu-X have been equipped with an idle start-stop system, low friction tyres and a transmission fluid warmer for the automatic variants. The brand claims that these updates have resulted in all three models showcasing improved fuel efficiency and reduced emissions levels.

The D-Max V-Cross can be had in 2WD or 4WD guises, both of which are available with a 6-speed automatic gearbox; the latter can also be had with a 6-speed manual. The Hi-Lander only comes in 2WD guise with a 6-speed manual. Meanwhile, the mu-X SUV comes equipped with a selectable 4WD system and is only available with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

Isuzu has introduced new cosmetic, safety and convenience features across all three models. Starting with styling updates, the mu-X SUV now gets a new chrome grille whereas the 4X2 D-Max V-Cross gets new black alloy wheels, grey wing mirrors and front fog lamp garnishes. Moreover, the lifestyle pickup truck in its 4X2 guise also gets dual tone upholstery on the inside, with brown inserts on the dashboard, door panels and gear selector lever.

When it comes to safety and convenience features, the 4X2 D-Max V-Cross now gets cruise control, traction control, electronic stability control (ESC), hill descent control (HDC), and hill-start assist (HSA). Meanwhile, the Hi-Lander pickup truck now gets automatic climate control and a rear defogger. The brand has also gone ahead and introduced a new ‘Valencia Orange’ colour option across all three models.

Isuzu D-Max V-Cross, Hi-Lander, mu-X rivals

The D-Max V-Cross and the Hi-Lander compete against the only other lifestyle pickup truck in the segment, the Toyota Hilux, which starts at Rs 30.40 lakh (ex-showroom). Meanwhile, the mu-X competes against other 7-seater premium SUVs such as the Jeep Meridian, MG Gloster, Toyota Fortuner and the Skoda Kodiaq.
