The facelifted Ford Endeavour (sold in international markets as the Everest) has been repeatedly spotted testing in Australia and Thailand in the run-up to its international launch expected in mid-2018. Autocar India can now confirm that the facelifted Endeavour will come to India in early 2019.

Leaked images and spy shots show the updated SUV will only get minor cosmetic tweaks such as a reworked radiator grille, slightly protruding fog lamp inserts on the front bumper, a silver finish for the lower part of the front bumper and new six-spoke alloy wheels. On the inside, the refreshed seven-seat SUV is expected to get some more equipment like passive keyless entry and a push-button start, features so far missing on the model.

While the cosmetic changes to the exteriors are minimal, the talking point of the version sold abroad will be the debut of a brand-new 2.0-litre diesel engine. The new four-cylinder diesel engine was introduced globally on the Ford Ranger pickup, along with a new 10-speed automatic transmission. The powertrain is offered with a choice of two outputs – 180hp/420Nm from the single-turbo version and 213hp/500Nm from the twin-turbo version.

Sadly, the new diesel motor and 10-speed automatic gearbox will not make their way to the Indian Endeavour, according to the Ford India officials we spoke to. The current engine line-up that includes a 160hp/385Nm, 2.2-litre diesel and a 200hp/470Nm, 3.2-litre diesel will remain on sale, albeit with possible upgrades to meet the stricter BS-VI emission norms that come into force in 2020.

The facelifted Ford Endeavour will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and will also have a new rival in Mahindra’s version of the SsangYong Rexton that goes on sale this year.
