The BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo has been updated for 2021. Priced at Rs 67.90-77.90 lakh, the facelifted model commands a slight premium compared to its predecessor which was positioned at Rs 65.90-77.00 lakh. 2021 BMW 6 Series GT facelift: design

The nip and tuck on the front and rear ends gives the 2021 GT a sharper look. It gets a larger ‘kidney’ grille, slimmer design for the headlamps and re-profiled bumpers. Moreover, all variants now come with trapezoidal exhaust tips as standard. Still, the notchback-style 6 Series maintains its characteristic cues like the frameless windows and an active rear spoiler.

The German marque has also added a range of new paint shades to the colour palette for the customers to choose from.

On the inside, design changes are more subtle, with a greater focus on the tech and features instead.

2021 BMW 6 Series GT facelift: equipment

Taking pride of place in the updated 6 Series GT’s cabin is the larger, 12.3-inch touchscreen that not only replaces the older 10.25-inch unit, but also comes bundled with Android Auto (in addition to Apple CarPlay, as before).

BMW has also added its 'Reversing Assistant' feature that takes over the steering duties from the driver while backing up for up to 50 metres.

These new features complement the outgoing model’s lengthy equipment list, which has been carried over, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, two 10.25-inch rear-seat entertainment screens, 360-degree parking camera, automatic parking, four-zone climate control, electrically adjustable rear seats, panoramic sunroof, LED headlights (now offered with a Laser light function on the higher M Sport trim), air suspension and doors with a soft close function.

2021 BMW 6 Series GT facelift: engine-gearbox line-up

As before, the 6 Series GT is offered in three versions – the 630i petrol and the 620d and 630d diesels. The 630i continues with its 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged mill that makes 258hp and 400Nm. Notably, both the diesels get two-stage turbocharging this time around, though their power outputs remain unchanged. So, the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder motor in the 620d makes 190hp and 400Nm, and the 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine in the 630d puts out 265hp and 620Nm. An eight-speed torque converter automatic transmission is offered as standard.

2021 BMW 6 Series GT facelift: rivals

With a greater overall length and wheelbase than the 5 Series sedan, the GT rivals the Mercedes-Benz E-class LWB (Rs 63.60-80.90 lakh), which also received a facelift recently. As such, the model forms an important part of BMW’s India line-up, which is why the automaker decided to bring in the updated version even before the 5 Series facelift that is also due this year.

Notably, the 6 Series GT has been continued in India, despite BMW taking it off the shelf in global markets, like the UK and US, where a shift in consumer preference towards SUVs has severely impacted its sales.
