The Yamaha MT-15 lightweight streetfighter is temporarily unavailable, with dealers across the country not receiving any stock of the motorcycle. This is likely because production of the current-gen motorcycle has ceased, as Yamaha gears up to launch an updated version.

Just a couple of months ago, type approval documents showed that the MT-15 would be receiving a number of key updates. The document listed changes to the dimensions of the motorcycle, engine power and torque and vehicle weight. This seems to indicate that there will be changes made to the MT-15’s design, as well as possibly some tweaks to the engine, and maybe even the addition of an upside-down fork.

All these updates would be in-line with the revisions that the R15 received in its fourth generation. The MT-15’s type approval document also mentions a “Communication Control Unit Assembly (Bluetooth dongle)”, as well as changes to the speedometer. So it’s quite likely that the naked bike will be receiving a revised instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity, like its fully-faired cousin.

At present, the outgoing model produces 18.5hp and 13.9Nm from its liquid-cooled, VVA-equipped 155cc motor. Its current features list includes LED headlights, LCD instrumentation and single-channel ABS.
