Indian Motorcycles has announced that it will be revealing an all-new Scout model on April 2. This will be the first major change to the Scout lineup since it came out nearly a decade ago.

  1. Current bike is offered in 4 different variants
  2. Has typical cruiser looks but modern liquid-cooled engine

All-new Indian Scout lineup will break cover soon

When the current Scout debuted nearly a decade ago, it was a new direction for the traditionalist American company, debuting an all-new short-stroke liquid-cooled engine. The 1,133cc V-Twin motor is rated for 100hp and 97Nm of torque, both at 5,600rpm. This motor was also the starting point for the FTR’s 1,203cc motor.

The design of the current Scout is very minimal and like most archetypical cruisers, it has a low, hunkered-down stance with a sofa-like feet-forward riding position. Where the trouble starts is in the very limited suspension travel (76mm for the standard bike and 51mm for the other variants) that will prove to be a back-breaker almost anywhere in our country. What's also not all that good in the Indian context is the low ground clearance, which will make dealing with our mountainous speedbreakers quite challenging.

With this being an ‘all-new’ model (at least according to Indian’s literature), we expect significant changes to nearly the entire bike, and it could maybe even be powered by the FTR’s engine, which would reduce its cubic capacity deficit compared to its chief competitor – the Harley-Davidson Sportster S.

The current Indian Scout lineup’s price starts at Rs 17 lakh (ex-showroom, India) and the company has only 5 dealers across the country currently, which will certainly relegate its lineup to a bit of a niche in the large-capacity cruiser market. The Scout name goes back more than a century and the modern bike forms the starting point of the Indian Motorcycle range.
