BMW’s tech-laden S 1000 RR supersports bike has just received a series of updates aimed at making it more rider-friendly. Leading the list of changes is a reconfigured throttle that improves overall response. Power delivery is more linear than before and this should benefit rideability at lower speeds. Interestingly, max power remains unchanged at 193bhp. BMW has also given the updated S 1000 RR a smaller secondary ratio for better acceleration.

Modifications have also been made to the RR’s suspension setup. These include a new internal structure within the upside down forks that provides a wider range of damper settings than before. BMW has also tweaked suspension geometry for better handling, accuracy and feedback. This included minor but crucial modifications to steering head angle, position of the swing arm pivot, fork projection, spring strut length and frame. A new adjustable steering damper is also part of the package.

The 2012 S 1000 RR retains the distinctive twin face look but a slimmer tail fairing, slightly redesigned side cowl and interesting winglets on the top panels do freshen up the design. Four new colour options namely Racing Red with Alpine White, Bluefire, Sapphire Black and BMW’s Motorrad Motorsport paint scheme further enhance the bike’s edgy styling. BMW Motorrad has also incorporated a ‘Best lap in progress’ indicator with the lap timer as well as a ‘speedwarning’ on the revised instrument cluster.

Expect a small bump in prices when the updated S 1000 RR goes on sale in India by early next year.
