2018 Suzuki Intruder FI launched at Rs 1.07 lakh

Suzuki Motorcycle India Private Limited (SMIPL) has launched the fuel-injected (Fi) version of the Intruder in India. The Japanese two-wheeler giant had showcased the cruiser at the 2018 Auto Expo earlier this year. The new Suzuki Intruder Fi has been priced at Rs 1,06,896; the stock carburettor version retails for Rs 99,995 (both prices, ex-showroom, New Delhi).

The new cruiser motorcycle from Suzuki will be offered in two colour options – metallic oort/metallic matt black, and glass sparkle black/metallic matt titanium silver. According to Suzuki, the new fuel-injection system consists of six sensors that calculate the optimum amount of fuel required for better combustion. This not only improves fuel consumption, but also offers better throttle response.

Commenting on the launch, Sajeev Rajasekharan, executive vice president, sales and marketing, SMIPL said, “Since its launch, the Intruder has received an overwhelming demand with close to 15,000 units sold, overachieving our projected sales target by 25 percent. With a unique blend of premium appeal, coupled with futuristic features like ABS and now an efficient fuel injection technology, the Intruder is a premium offering in the cruiser segment, unlike any other.”

The Suzuki Intruder is based on the Gixxer platform and is the first affordable cruiser from Suzuki for the Indian market. Styling of the new motorcycle is a bit in-your-face and it has received mixed reviews for its design language. It carries forward the same all-digital instrument console as seen on the Gixxer.

Powering the Intruder Fi, is the same 155cc, single-cylinder motor as seen on the standard Intruder and, despite the addition of fuel-injection, power and torque figures remain identical at 14.6hp and 14Nm respectively. Transmission duties are handled by a five-speed gearbox. It gets a 41mm telescopic setup up front and a mid-mounted, preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. The bike has been equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels, which come shod with 100-section MRF Nylogrip Zapper up front and a 140-section Zapper at the rear. Anchorage is provided by disc brakes on both ends and single-channel ABS comes as standard.

Given its price and positioning, the Suzuki Intruder doesn’t have any real competition in our two-wheeler space and the only motorcycle that comes close with respect to pricing is the Bajaj Avenger 220 series.
