MRF Superbike tyres: What to expect?
MRF claims it offers longer life than the Bridgestone S23
India’s biggest tyre manufacturer, MRF, is a little late to the superbike tyre game, but it arrives on the scene with something that no rival has achieved in this space yet. These tyres have been officially certified by Suzuki for use on their big bikes, including the mighty Hayabusa, as well as the Katana and GSX-8R. That’s a massive seal of approval, especially from a Japanese company and on such a high-performance motorcycle.
These tyres use a zero-degree steel radial belt construction. Unlike many rivals, this is a single-compound tyre, and MRF claims that during testing, it delivered up to 15 percent longer life than the Bridgestone S23 that comes as standard on the Hayabusa. Moreover, it also claims that the tyres are engineered to wear in a consistent pattern, with no abrupt drops in performance as they age.
We have ridden a Hayabusa equipped with these tyres at MRF’s new state-of-the-art proving grounds facility at Trichy and were quite impressed with the performance. More details will be shared in a subsequent review article.
The new MRF superbike tyres will be available in multiple sizes, ranging from 160/70 ZR17 to 190/55 ZR17 rear tyres, and MRF says more sizes will be added over time. A set of Hayabusa tyres will be priced at Rs 34,000. The superbike tyres will be available at select MRF dealers in big cities, but customers can also purchase them online from MRF directly.
