Yamaha has launched the much-anticipated XSR155 in India. While it comes powered by the same 155cc, liquid-cooled engine, it sets itself apart from the MT-15 and R15 by sporting a neo-retro design. Here are all the differences between the MT-15 and its newest sibling in town.
Yamaha XSR155 vs MT-15: Design and styling
The XSR dons a neo-retro design as opposed to the MT-15’s sharp and futuristic styling.

Right off the bat, the appeal of the XSR lies in its neo-retro styling. While the MT-15 and R15 appeal to the youth, the XSR would attract a more mature audience. This is largely down to its design differences.
Up front, the design difference is apparent and you cannot confuse one for the other from any angle. The XSR155 gets a round reflector-based LED headlight with a round DRL (daytime running lamp). The MT-15, on the other hand, sports a futuristic look with the twin-slash DRL mimicking eyes; beneath that is a mono-projector LED headlight. Even the rear-view mirror on the XSR is round and simpler, in line with its retro-theme.

The tank also features design differences, with the XSR getting a teardrop-shaped tank that merges into the seat. The MT gets a rather sculpted tank with knee recesses, and though the XSR’s tank might look smaller, it carries the same 10 litres. The XSR does benefit from a 4kg lower kerb weight. It also gets a relatively flat, single-piece seat, while the MT-15 gets a stepped, split seat.
At the back, the XSR155 features a simple round LED tail-light as opposed to a horizontal LED tail-light on the MT-15, which is shared with the FZ-S Fi V4 line-up.
Yamaha XSR155 vs MT-15: Features and equipment
MT-15 offers a TFT dash on its top-spec variant.

In terms of features, the XSR and MT are quite closely stacked. Both motorcycles feature dual-channel ABS and traction control. Although Yamaha recently launched a new top-spec variant of the MT-15 that features a TFT dash, the XSR doesn’t offer that feature altogether and gets a round negative-LCD dash with app-based connectivity.
Yamaha XSR155 vs MT-15: Price and variants
XSR is available in one variant.
The XSR is available in one variant and four colour options. Priced from Rs 1.50 lakh, it is the most affordable liquid-cooled 155cc Yamaha bike on sale right now. It undercuts the base MT-15 by Rs 5,000 and this delta increases to Rs 16,000 when you consider the top-spec MT-15 with the TFT dash.
