Scooters are inherently practical vehicles, and a large part of that practicality stems from storage, particularly the underseat storage. Electric scooters typically offer more boot space thanks to the compact packaging of their electric powertrains, while petrol scooters still need to accommodate engines, fuel tanks and exhaust systems beneath the seat.
We recently compiled a list of electric scooters with the largest boots. Now, let’s look at the five petrol scooters with the most generous underseat storage currently available in India.
1. BMW C 400 GT
37.6 litres
The BMW C 400 GT is a proper maxi-scooter. It received a notable update last year, including an extra 7.1 litres of underseat storage – bringing the total capacity to an impressive 37.6 litres – propelling it to the top of this list. The manufacturer achieved this by redesigning the seat tub and seat shell while relocating the control unit and underseat lighting. For some additional storage space, there’s a cubby on the front apron, and it has grown as well – by 3.2 litres to 4.5 litres total. At Rs 10.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the C 400 GT is significantly more expensive than the other scooters on this list, so any further comparison would be unfair.

2. TVS Jupiter 110/125
33 litres
Both the TVS Jupiter and Jupiter 125 share the same platform and offer an identical 33-litre underseat storage space – the largest for an India-made scooter. This impressive capacity comes thanks to a fuel tank located under the floorboard and an apron-mounted filler, allowing for a cavernous boot that can accommodate two half-face helmets. The Jupiter models have become TVS’s bestsellers for good reason, combining practicality with comfortable ride quality, peppy performance and modern features.

3. Yamaha Aerox 155
24.5 litres
The Yamaha Aerox 155 takes a different approach with its unique underbone construction that ditches the traditional flat floorboard. While this design choice means there’s no flat floor, the Aerox compensates with a generous 24.5-litre underseat storage area. The spine section (that takes the place of the floorboard) is where the fuel tank is located, making the scooter a practical option despite its sporty credentials. The Aerox also features full-LED lighting, Bluetooth connectivity via a digital LCD cluster, a charging port and keyless ignition on the higher-spec ‘Version S’.

4. Suzuki Access 125
24.4 litres
The Suzuki Access 125 has been a stalwart in the Indian scooter market since 2007, and the 2025 update brought a meaningful increase in storage capacity. The underseat boot now measures 24.4 litres, up from 21.8 litres, making it one of the more spacious family scooters available. This growth in storage is complemented by two slim cubbies on the front apron, though these have rather slender openings.

5. TVS Ntorq 125/150
22 litres
Both the TVS Ntorq 125 and the newer Ntorq 150 offer 22 litres of underseat storage, allowing these sporty scooters to offer a fair share of practicality. While this is less than the family-oriented Jupiter and Access models, it’s still generous for scooters in the sporty segment.
