•24wI am a 1st time buyer, my budget is 16 lakhs. I want a car for 70% city and 30% highway. My monthly running would be around 700-750 km. It would be mostly used for family purposes. I am a Thar lover, but open to other options also. Safety is a priority. Please suggest.

Since you are a Mahindra Thar fan, an update to the 3-door is expected to launch soon. Given your monthly running, a petrol would be a better choice. The current version has been rated 5-star in terms of crash test, so you can expect the update to follow the same.
However, since it’s your first car, it would help to take a test drive and see how you like it from behind the wheel. The ride height and dimensions, while compact, are quite different and may take more time to get used to.
If you feel the Thar is too much for the city, other options are a bit more friendly in traffic. The upcoming Hyundai Venue, Kia Syros, and even the Citroen Basalt with the turbocharged engine.
