I currently own a Mahindra XUV 3XO TGDi (Revv variant) and have clocked 6,300km over the past eight months. However, I am averaging only 8–9kpl. Since around 80 percent of my driving is within the city and I prefer high-performance engines, should I consider switching to the Kia Seltos Diesel or the XUV 3XO Diesel?

At 80% city usage, switching to a diesel purely for better mileage doesn’t make much sense. Your 8–9kpl is on the lower side, but the T-GDi is the performance-oriented engine, and frequent stop-start traffic will naturally bring down its efficiency.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO diesel will deliver considerably better fuel economy and strong low-end torque, but it also brings the added complexity of a DPF. Since most of your driving is in the city, short and slow trips can make DPF regeneration more difficult. You would need to give the car occasional sustained runs to allow the system to regenerate properly.

The Kia Seltos diesel is the better of the two if you want to move to a larger and more premium SUV. It is refined, has strong torque, and the automatic is well suited to relaxed driving. However, you would still have the same DPF consideration, and neither diesel will give you the performance character of your T-GDi.

@texaslion, if you are considering to buy a diesel car by selling of the current car, it wont benefit you financially by switching to diesel for better fuel efficiency, you would have lost atleast 20% of the value of your car, which exceeds the financial benefit which you could reep from buying an efficent diesel engine.My suggestion is that if you are not genuinely happy with the products reliability and if its giving some unresolved issues, only then considering switching to a newer car.

@texaslion Go with Mahindra XUV 3XO 👍with the current.. Diesel won't fetch you much mileage and stick to whatever 3xo is with you unless you are looking for big Suv.

I am currently using creta 1.5 CRDI diesel i am looking for an upgrade i have 3 cars in my list XUV 7XO, INNOVA HYCROSS, and HYUNDAI ALCAZAR. I will drive 400 to 500 kilometers per week which should I prefer 🤔

@akshith I own mahindra xuv7xo,7XLD this is my fourth mahindra vehicle, I use it for 5 years approx 75K kilometres its a excellent vehicle, very low on maintaince and very good mileage.

I liked the interior quality of the Seltos, while the Safari’s road presence is impressive. My annual running is around 15,000km, including both city driving and highway trips. Go for the Kia Seltos HTX(A) DCT. At 15,000 km a year with a mix of city and highway driving, the Seltos is the more sensible choice. This Kia car is easier to drive in the city, more efficient and still comfortable on long trips. The DCT gearbox is quick but a bit jerky in traffic, but the car feels premium inside, which you already like. The Tata Safari has great road presence and more space, but this Tata car is a much bigger car to live with every day and does not feel as well-finished inside. The Seltos is the better all-rounder for your usage.

Hello team, I’m looking for a petrol automatic SUV that is safe, smooth, reliable, and suitable for long-term ownership (10 years), with a 60:40 city/highway usage pattern. My budget is Rs 15 lakh. I’m getting the following on-road deals: XUV 3XO AX5: Rs 13.5 lakh Creta EX(O): Rs 17 lakh (may be Rs 16.5 lakh) Both are petrol automatics. Is it worth stretching my budget for the Creta EX(O)? Is it advisable to wait for upcoming launches, or are there any other current alternatives I should consider? I’m not interested in fancy features like a sunroof, etc.

Go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO AX5 automatic. At Rs 13.5 lakh on-road, it gives you everything you've asked for: a smooth automatic, strong safety, and a roomy cabin, and keeps you comfortably within budget. Its 1.2 turbo-petrol engine is paired with a proper torque-converter automatic, which is smooth in town and relaxed on the highway. This Mahindra car also has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and its wide cabin seats five better than most compact SUVs. The one weak spot is the boot, which is small.Stretching to the Hyundai Creta EX(O) only makes sense if you need the extra space. It's a size up, with a roomier rear seat and a bigger boot. But that's Rs 3-3.5 lakh more for a lower-spec variant, and an all-new Creta is due next year. If this Hyundai car appeals, wait for the new one rather than buying the current one now.

I am a 6 ft driver who loves driving. I've driven the Swift 2013 petrol, Creta 1.6 Diesel Auto and the XUV500 the most on long trips. Now that I am planning to buy a car with a strict budget, do you think the 3XO AX5 TCMPFI petrol variant will be a wise decision to make, as I will be travelling once a month for short trips from Bangalore to Coorg, Pondicherry, GOA, and Mangalore? Which other car can be a perfect match for me, keeping a budget of 12 lakhs max? Also, the 3XO AX5 I'm getting from a friend who has hardly driven 6k km for 10 lakhs.

Hello, I want to upgrade from my current Dzire diesel (2009 model). My running is nearly 7 thousand which is very low. My budget is 10 lakh mostly within city driven but with few highway trips every quarter. So please suggest some reliable comfortable car. I have taken the test drive of Maruti Suzuki Fronx AGS but space in the back is also an issue. I have also taken the test drive of Brezza Turbo and I found it smooth and easy . Anything else I should go for ?

With just around 7,000km a year, mostly in the city, a simple petrol car makes much more sense than a diesel. Since you have already driven the Brezza and found it smooth and easy to drive, it would be my first choice. The new 1.0 litre Booster jet is refined, has good low speed tractability and is more than adequate for your occasional highway trips. We also found it impressively efficient, with the onboard computer showing 11 to 14kpl even during hard driving.One important point, though: the new Brezza 1.0 Turbo is manual only. If you are looking for an automatic, the 1.5 litre petrol is still the only Brezza powertrain with an automatic, and that pushes the price beyond your Rs. 10 lakh budget.
