When will the Kia Seltos hybrid launch in India? Is it likely to arrive during the 2026 festive season or in 2027?

Kia had initially indicated that the Seltos hybrid could arrive by the end of 2026, but that now looks unlikely. The more realistic expectation is a 2027 launch, with the first half of the year appearing to be the stronger possibility. Kia is still working on localising key hybrid components, which is important to keep pricing competitive.

Our best guess is that the Seltos hybrid could make its first public appearance at the 2027 Bharat Mobility Show, followed by a market launch soon after. However, Kia has not confirmed an exact timeline yet, so a later 2027 introduction cannot be ruled out.

The India-spec Seltos hybrid is expected to pair the existing 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a strong-hybrid system. The focus should be on substantially better real-world fuel economy and smoother city driving, rather than outright performance.

Hi, I am a first-time car buyer and earn around Rs 1 lakh per month. I am planning to buy a car this year and have shortlisted the Maruti Brezza facelift, Hyundai Venue and Kia Seltos. My usage will be roughly 50% in the city and 50% on the highway. Which of these would be the better choice for a first-time buyer? In the Brezza facelift, the 1.5-litre engine costs around Rs 1 lakh more than the 1.0-litre turbo. Would it be worth spending the extra amount on the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine, or is the 1.0-litre turbo a better choice? What are the key differences between these two engines, especially in terms of performance, comfort and ease of driving? My main priorities are comfort and an easy, relaxed driving experience.

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza 1.5 petrol automatic would be the best fit for you. As a first-time buyer with a 50:50 city-highway usage pattern and comfort and ease of driving as priorities, the Brezza's smooth, predictable power delivery, light controls and comfortable ride make it the easiest car here to live with. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine is also the better choice if you want an automatic. At the same time, the 1.0-litre turbo makes sense mainly if you prefer a manual and want stronger mid-range performance. The extra Rs 1 lakh for the 1.5 is worth spending if the automatic is the preference.The new Hyundai Venue is more feature-rich and feels more modern inside, while its 1.0-litre turbo offers stronger performance than the Brezza 1.5. However, its DCT is not as effortless as a torque converter in slow city traffic, so it isn't the first choice if easy driving is the priority. The new Kia Seltos is the most premium and spacious of the three and would be the better choice if the budget comfortably allows it, but it is a significant step up in price and may not be the wisest choice on a Rs 1 lakh monthly income.

The Kia Seltos GTX DCT is a good car, but the turbo-petrol DCT is not the best fit for this kind of usage. DCT gearboxes are at their best in spirited driving and can be less comfortable in heavy traffic, while turbo-petrol engines are not the most efficient option for high-mileage ownership.Given your running, a diesel Seltos would actually be the more sensible choice today. It will prove to be more efficient, well-suited to long commutes and offer a strong ownership proposition. However, since you are already considering waiting, it is worth holding on for the upcoming Seltos and Hyundai New Creta hybrid models expected next year. A strong hybrid will deliver significantly better fuel efficiency in your kind of usage and will be a better long-term ownership proposition than a turbo-petrol DCT.If you need the car immediately, go for the Seltos diesel. If you can wait, the hybrid is the smarter long-term choice.

We would strongly advise against installing aftermarket CNG on any of these SUVs. All three – the Tata Safari, Mahindra XUV 7XO and Scorpio N - are large, heavy vehicles with powerful turbocharged petrol engines. Fitting CNG to such engines is not recommended, as it can lead to drivability issues, increased wear and potential reliability concerns over time. More importantly, these SUVs are not designed with CNG in mind, and the installation can compromise safety and performance.If fuel economy is a top priority, opt for their diesel versions instead. The Mahindra and Tata offer strong torque, excellent highway efficiency and are well-suited to long-distance touring. If you are set on CNG, it is better to look at smaller, naturally aspirated petrol cars that are either factory-fitted or specifically designed for CNG use.Between the three, the XUV 7XO diesel would be our recommendation. It offers a more modern package, better ride comfort and a more premium cabin than the Scorpio N, while the Safari diesel is also a strong contender if you prefer Tata's design and feature set. But CNG should not be the deciding factor here.

The Seltos offers a noticeably larger and more premium cabin, better rear seat space and a more substantial feel overall. The IVT gearbox is smooth and well-suited to city driving, and the car feels like a genuine step up from the Slavia in terms of comfort and overall ownership experience.The Honda Elevate V CVT petrol is a solid and reliable choice, but it does not feel like as much of an upgrade from the Slavia. The cabin is not as spacious or as premium as the Seltos, and the overall ownership experience is more about simplicity and reliability than about feeling like a significant step up.The only caveat with the Seltos HTK is that it is not the most feature-rich variant in the lineup. If you can stretch to a higher variant, the Seltos becomes an even stronger recommendation. If not, it is still the better choice over the Elevate because it offers a more substantial upgrade from your current car.
