I’m planning to replace my current car and would appreciate some expert advice. I currently drive a Maruti Suzuki Ritz, and in the past 10 years I have driven only about 65,000 km, so my usage is quite low. I mostly use the car occasionally on weekends and for highway trips, not for daily commuting. My main reasons for upgrading are better safety and more comfort. I live in Bengaluru, so city traffic and parking are also factors to consider. I am currently confused between two options: Tata Nexon top-end variant with DCA (automatic so wife can use) Tata Sierra mid variant (likely Pure Plus) manual due to budget constraints.

After the EV, the turbo-petrol-DCA is the second-best iteration in the Nexon range. The drive experience is smooth and gearbox is seamless, although it is not the most refined in the segment. Of course, being a sub-4-metre car, manoeuvring it in town or parking in tight spots will be easier than a Sierra, and like you've mentioned, opting for an automatic comes with added convenience. Tata has done well to update the Nexon's interiors with modern features and tech, so even though it is an old platform, it is still up-to-speed with times. If you like the Nexon DCA, go for it - it'll be a good upgrade from your outgoing Maruti Ritz.

Go for the Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG. With your monthly 500km Mumbai-outstation runs, the Victoris CNG is the sensible choice. It is the larger of the two, with a more spacious cabin and a larger boot, which makes a difference on long trips with luggage. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine runs well on CNG, and Maruti's CNG calibration is among the best in the business.The Nexon, with its turbo engine, has a bit more performance for highway overtakes, whereas the Victoris' naturally aspirated engine might need a downshift or two. However, in most scenarios, the Victoris will feel adequate. Overall, the Victoris is the better choice, but test-drive both on the highway to see which you prefer.

The current Nexon is a competitive product in its segment, and the DCA automatic is a smooth and reliable gearbox for everyday use.While a new-generation Nexon is likely to arrive in 2027, Tata has not officially confirmed a launch timeline. The new generation is likely to carry forward the outgoing version's powertrain options, with the key difference being styling, tech and its feature-set in addition to some other mechanical enhancements.If you need a car now, there is no compelling reason to delay your purchase.

This Hyundai car also gets driver's seat height adjustment from the base trim, which will be very handy for your wife. The AMT gearbox is smooth enough for daily commuting, and the car is very easy to drive. Fuel efficiency is decent; expect 9 to 10kpl in the city and 15kpl on the highway.If you want something a bit more efficient, consider the Maruti Suzuki Swift. In our testing we managed 12.7kpl in the city and 19kpl on the highway with the AGS. However, height adjustment for the driver's seat is only available on the ZXi trim onwards.Overall, the Hyundai Exter AMT is the better fit for your requirements.
