I need advice on whether I should switch to a corporate car lease for tax savings or retain my current vehicle, given my situation. My current situation: I own a 2023 Mahindra XUV300 W8(O) Diesel Manual (manufactured in February 2023) with 39,000 km on the odometer. It is one of the rare, trouble-free batches without a DPF filter. It delivers 15-16 km/l in the city and 20-21 km/l on the highway. The change: I will be relocating next month, and my daily commute will increase to 50 km, taking my annual running to around 15,000 km. The opportunity: My company offers a corporate car lease program that allows me to lease a vehicle using pre-tax income, resulting in around 30% savings in income tax. The wildcard: I am actively exploring job opportunities abroad. If I relocate, the car will be left behind for my father or brother-in-law to use. Given this situation, should I opt for the corporate car lease or continue with my current vehicle?

Given your situation, we would recommend retaining your current XUV300 rather than switching to a corporate car lease. You already have a rare, trouble-free diesel without a DPF filter, delivering excellent fuel efficiency and reliability. With your daily commute increasing to 50 km, the car is well suited to the task, and you are not facing any immediate ownership concerns. The corporate lease does offer a 30% tax saving on the lease amount, but that benefit is only meaningful if you are certain you will remain in the job and location for the full lease period. Since you are actively exploring opportunities abroad, there is a real risk that you may have to leave the car behind mid-lease, which can create complications and potentially negate the financial benefit. Your current car is already a strong financial asset, and there is no pressing reason to replace it. The only scenario where the lease makes sense is if you are certain you will stay for the full lease term. Otherwise, the safer and more sensible decision is to retain the XUV300 and avoid unnecessary complexity.

Hi Autocar India Team, I currently own a 2020 Maruti Suzuki Baleno Alpha and am planning to upgrade to a mid-size SUV (not a compact SUV). My usage is predominantly city driving, averaging 15-20 km per day, with occasional highway trips every 2-3 months, typically covering 500-800 km. I'm looking for a reliable, fun-to-drive petrol or strong hybrid SUV with low running costs and dependable after-sales support, as I live in a tier-2 city in Karnataka where the service network is an important consideration. In terms of features, I expect the new car to offer everything my Baleno Alpha already has, along with a few practical additions such as: TPMS, 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, spacious boot Overall good fit and finish with no gimmicky features My priorities, in order, are: Reliability, Driving experience, After-sales service, Practical features, Value for money My budget is around 16-18 lakhs. Could you please recommend the best SUV and the most value-for-money variant for my requirements?

With a budget of Rs 16-18 lakh, predominantly city driving and a focus on reliability, hassle-free ownership and a good service network, the Elevate is the best fit. Its naturally aspirated 1.5-litre petrol engine and CVT gearbox are smooth, proven and well suited to daily commuting, while Honda's reputation for reliability makes it an easy car to own over the long term. The ZX variant also gets the practical features you're looking for, including a 360-degree camera, TPMS, rear AC vents and a well-finished cabin without relying on gimmicks. If fuel efficiency is your highest priority, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Delta Smart Hybrid AT is another strong option. It won't match the economy of the Strong Hybrid, but it still delivers impressive real-world efficiency, benefits from Maruti Suzuki's extensive service network and comfortably fits within your budget. If you're willing to stretch your budget by a couple of lakh rupees, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Strong Hybrid is worth considering. Its hybrid powertrain is exceptionally efficient in city traffic and offers very low running costs, but at current prices, it sits outside your stated budget.

Hi, I am a teacher and a first-time female driver with a budget of Rs. 11.5 lakh. I am looking for an automatic car that I plan to keep for the next 15 years, but I am confused about whether to buy a petrol AMT, CNG AMT, or an EV due to the uncertainty surrounding ethanol blending. My daily commute is 46 km, of which 22 km is on the highway, 18 km is on normal roads, and 6 km is on bumpy village roads in poor condition. Please recommend the most suitable fuel type that will keep my overall cost of ownership low.

We'd recommend a petrol automatic. With a daily running of around 46km and an ownership period of 15 years, it offers the best balance of low ownership costs, reliability and ease of use for a first-time driver. We wouldn't let E20 fuel influence your decision. Modern E20-compliant petrol cars are designed to run on it, and there is no official roadmap beyond E20. It isn't a reason to avoid buying a petrol car today. A CNG automatic will certainly reduce your fuel bills, but the higher purchase price, reduced boot space and limited automatic options make CNG car less attractive unless fuel savings are your overriding priority. An electric car will have the lowest running costs, but at your budget, you'll have to compromise on size or features, and recovering the higher upfront cost will take time.Given your budget and usage, we'd look at the Maruti Suzuki Brezza facelift automatic which will launch soon if you can stretch slightly, or the Maruti Suzuki Fronx Delta+ AGS if you want to stay within budget. Both are easy to drive, have good ground clearance for the 6km of rough village roads and come backed by Maruti Suzuki's extensive service network. If you prefer a smoother automatic, the Hyundai Exter SX AMT is also worth considering.
