I am currently using a Hyundai Creta 1.5 CRDi diesel and am looking for an upgrade. I have shortlisted three cars: the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Toyota Innova HyCross and Hyundai Alcazar. I will drive around 400-500 km per week. Which one should I prefer?

Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross. With 400-500 km a week, you need a car that is comfortable, reliable and effortless over long distances. The Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid is the best fit here. It is extremely comfortable, has a spacious cabin, and the hybrid powertrain is smooth and efficient, especially on highways where it delivers excellent fuel economy for a car of its size. Toyota's reliability and low maintenance costs also make it a strong long-term ownership proposition.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel is a good alternative if you specifically want a diesel SUV with strong performance and a more engaging driving experience, but the Hycross is the better all-rounder for your usage. The Hyundai Alcazar is not a true upgrade from your Creta and does not offer the same level of space, comfort or long-distance capability as the other two.

The only drawback with the HyCross is that it is not as engaging to drive as the XUV 7XO, but for your usage, comfort and efficiency matter more. Overall, the HyCross is the car you will be happiest with after five years of ownership.

I'm looking for a car under Rs.15 lakh for daily commute in city of around 60km. Safety is my first priority and I'm preferring an automatic as my dad will also drive it. Currently, I own a 2011 1st generation Swift petrol and XUV 700 diesel AT for highways and long trips. I am planning to upgrade from my 2021 Toyota Urban Cruiser petrol manual, which has covered 41,000 km. I want a comfortable five-seater that can occasionally accommodate seven people. I have shortlisted the Mahindra XUV 7XO, but I am confused between the petrol and diesel versions. I definitely want an automatic. I live in Bangalore, which is one of the reasons I chose the XUV 7XO because it gets a torque-converter automatic. I don't want the Kia Carens Clavis because of its DCT gearbox, and I am also not considering the Tata Safari because of my concerns about Tata's service experience. My monthly running will be around 1,000-1,500 km, mostly with my family. Fuel efficiency is also important, as I feel the XUV 7XO petrol could be quite fuel-hungry. I am therefore considering the diesel automatic AX7T. There will be some city driving, but my office commute also includes highway stretches, which should help with DPF regeneration. Please suggest which one I should buy. If the XUV 7XO is not the right choice, should I consider another family car or wait for any upcoming launches?

I am new to driving and am looking for a sub-4-metre petrol SUV with a torque converter automatic gearbox. My budget is around Rs 12-13 lakh on-road. Which car should I buy among Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Petrol base or Kia Seltos petrol base? And also tell me if anyone has faced power issue or pickup issue while overtaking as I want the car for long term.

Between the two, the Seltos is the better choice, especially if you are looking at the base variant. It feels more premium, is the newer product and offers a more complete package even in its lower variants.The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol makes 115hp and 144Nm. It isn't a particularly powerful engine, but it is smooth and refined and is perfectly adequate for normal city driving.For overtaking, it won't have the punch of the Seltos turbo, but it isn't underpowered either. With a full load and during quick highway overtakes, you may need to plan ahead and use higher revs. The Grand Vitara's 1.5 petrol is also a smooth, simple powertrain, but its performance is more relaxed and the base variant is quite sparsely equipped.
