I am currently using a Hyundai Creta 1.5 CRDi diesel and am looking for an upgrade. I have shortlisted three cars: the Mahindra XUV 7XO, Toyota Innova HyCross and Hyundai Alcazar. I will drive around 400-500 km per week. Which one should I prefer?

Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross. With 400-500 km a week, you need a car that is comfortable, reliable and effortless over long distances. The Toyota Innova HyCross hybrid is the best fit here. It is extremely comfortable, has a spacious cabin, and the hybrid powertrain is smooth and efficient, especially on highways where it delivers excellent fuel economy for a car of its size. Toyota's reliability and low maintenance costs also make it a strong long-term ownership proposition.

The Mahindra XUV 7XO diesel is a good alternative if you specifically want a diesel SUV with strong performance and a more engaging driving experience, but the Hycross is the better all-rounder for your usage. The Hyundai Alcazar is not a true upgrade from your Creta and does not offer the same level of space, comfort or long-distance capability as the other two.

The only drawback with the HyCross is that it is not as engaging to drive as the XUV 7XO, but for your usage, comfort and efficiency matter more. Overall, the HyCross is the car you will be happiest with after five years of ownership.

Hi Dear Auto car team , I am OMKAR from Baner , Pune . On 28th June 2026 autocar team had answered my query regarding Toyota Camary . I want to share my further experience. Here’s my experience. I had done quite extensive research on Camary I had a few friends at the dealership I talked with them and they had a demo Camary for sale it was just 17 - 18 months old and had done around 27,000 Km . It was decently priced at around 37.5 lakhs and it was in Pearl White colour . I loved it . I took my family my mom , dad , wife and son on next Sunday to the dealership to see the car . The Camary was out for test drive the sales team told us to wait for about an hour or so till the Camary returns . In that one hour some other sales person offered to show us the Innova Hycross . My whole Family saw the car and they just loved it so much that we ended up booking the Hycross . My family didn’t even see the Camary , Such is the magic of Hycross . The dealership has tentatively told us the delivery will be by mid January. I will share the further experience also . Thanks autocar for your suggestion support and guidance. I m thinking of an upgrade while still continuing with the swift LDI 2009. I have few options in mind and need your suggestions. 1. Mahindra XUV7XO: Because of great engine, space and relatively lower cost of ownership and maintenance while keeping it for at least 10 years. 2. Volkswagen Tayron: I like the car because of driving performance, luxury quotient and space for family. Only thing I dont like is absence of physical buttons. 3. Kodiaq L&K: Same positives as Tayron. I also like its interiors and colour combination however I m leaning more towards Tayron for its sporty performance. But with both these, I m concerned about how will it behave in long run on our bad road and what will be the cost of owning it in long term of at least 10 years compared to xuv 7xO. Please help.

If you intend to keep your next car for at least 10 years, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more sensible choice financially, while the Volkswagen Tayron and Skoda Kodiaq L&K are more appealing if driving performance, cabin quality and a premium feel matter more to you.The Tayron and Kodiaq offer a more sophisticated driving experience, but their long term maintenance and repair costs are likely to be considerably higher than the Mahindra's, particularly once the warranty expires. On bad roads, all three can cope with normal use, but the European SUVs' larger wheels and lower profile tyres can make potholes more expensive to deal with.The XUV 7XO offers strong performance, good space and a wider service network, making it easier to justify over a decade of ownership.

I am confused between Kia Carens Clavis and XUV 7XO. We currently have an Elevate and this will be our second car at home. Our total annual running comes to 13-14,000 km and we take 6-7 road trips with 6-7 adults annually (on average). Our running is 80-90% within city. I'm looking for Clavis HTX (O) DCT or the XUV 7XO AX5.

Since you already own a Honda Elevate, the Kia Carens Clavis HTX (O) DCT would make more sense for your second car, particularly because you regularly travel with six or seven adults. The Clavis has a more usable third row, where adults can sit with reasonable comfort, while the Mahindra XUV 7XO’s third row is cramped for adults on longer journeys. The Clavis also has an airy cabin, thanks to its large windows, and a comfortable ride that should make family road trips more relaxing.The turbo petrol engine offers adequate performance, although the DCT can feel jerky in stop and go traffic. Given that 80 to 90 per cent of your driving is in the city, you should experience this gearbox in heavy traffic before deciding.The XUV 7XO is the better choice if performance and driving engagement matter more to you. It is comfortable and spacious in the first two rows, but its third row is better suited to children.

Dear Autocar Team, I currently own a Dzire diesel manual (2018) and now I am planning to buy a new car but I am very confused between Harrier EV Fearless Plus 75kwh and the XEV 9S Pack Two Above 79kwh. Although, I love diesel cars but since I live in Faridabad, my biggest concern is about increasing bans and restrictions on diesel cars. My main usage is on highways and bit within the city. I have clocked 1.3 lakh km on my Dzire in 8-9 years. I am getting the exact Harrier EV model for Rs. 22 lakh (on-road) whereas the XEV 9S will cost around Rs. 27-28 lakh (on-road) and that is my biggest confusion. Should I spend this additional amount on the XEV 9S for Harrier ev because I don't want any hassles as an since I plan to keep the car for the next several years.

Since your choice is between these two exact models, go for the Tata Harrier EV Fearless Plus 75kWh at Rs 22 lakh on-road. It is a much better value proposition given the Rs. 5-6 lakh savings over the Mahindra XEV 9S. The Harrier EV is a solidly-built, hardy SUV that's comfy for 5 adults and their luggage.Sure, the XEV 9S gives you the flexibility of three-rows of seating; a lighter steering with a tighter turning radius; and with a larger battery and a more efficient electric powertrain, real-world range will be better. But since you don't specifically need a three-row SUV, the Harrier EV's lower price makes it the more sensible buy.

I am looking for a petrol automatic car under Rs 12 lakh with good features. My first choice is the Honda Amaze, but I am concerned about its ground clearance and engine performance. Around 70% of my driving will be in the city. Would the Amaze be a good choice?

With 70% city driving, the Honda Amaze is actually a very sensible choice. The CVT automatic is smooth and easy to drive in traffic. The engine is reliable, and the car’s compact dimensions make it easy to manoeuvre and park.The only real drawback is that the engine is not particularly torquey, so it can feel a bit flat on highways or when fully loaded. However, for predominantly city use, that is not a major concern. The ground clearance at 172 mm is adequate for most urban conditions, but a fully loaded car can cause the rear suspension to compress significantly, requiring caution over large speed breakers. If you like the Honda Amaze petrol automatic for what it offers, go for it.

For my personal requirements, I have shortlisted two cars including Mahindra 3XO Edge automatic and Brezza VXI automatic. The only reason for which I have shortlisted Brezza is because of its simple engine. Otherwise, everyone in my family wants to go with 3XO for its space, unique looks and bigger width. I want to know about TCMPFi engine. Will it be reliable and at least better than Nexon's Revotron?

Go for the Mahindra XUV 3XO Edge automatic. The Brezza VXi automatic is a safe, simple and reliable choice, but the 3XO is the better fit for your requirements. It offers a wider cabin, more space and a more premium feel, which your family clearly values. The TCMPFi engine is a turbocharged petrol unit and is fundamentally a sound engine. It is not a new or unproven powertrain, and Mahindra has had time to refine it. It is also paired with a 6-speed torque converter automatic, which is a proven and reliable gearbox type. Compared to the Nexon’s Revotron engine, the 3XO’s powertrain is more refined and the gearbox is smoother and more conventional in its operation. The Brezza’s naturally aspirated petrol engine is simpler and will likely be marginally more reliable over a very long ownership period, but the 3XO’s engine is not something to worry about from a reliability perspective. Given your family’s preference for space and the more premium feel, the 3XO is the better choice.
