I have always loved the driving dynamics and comfort of sedans and want to buy a new one with a budget of around ₹20 lakh. In India, there are very few sedan options that offer both ADAS and a 360-degree camera. Should I consider an SUV instead? If yes, which one?

If you are looking for a sedan, the Hyundai Verna is a good option. It is spacious, comfortable, and has a good ride quality. The 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is punchy, and it comes with Level 2 ADAS features. However, it does not have a 360-degree parking camera.
If you are open to an SUV, the Hyundai Creta Turbo-DCT would be a good option. It has the same powertrain as the Verna but comes with the added practicality of an SUV, and it also gets a 360-degree camera and ADAS features.

My budget is ₹14 lakh, and I want to buy an automatic car. Please suggest which is the better option among the Kia Sonet, Mahindra 3XO, and Hyundai Venue. I do a round trip of about 600 km to my hometown once every 4-5 months, and the rest of my driving is within the city. I am looking for good mileage, good boot space, and comfortable seating for three people in the rear.

One of the weaknesses of the Mahindra XUV 3XO is poor boot space for its class, and hence we would rule it out since boot space is one of your requirements. The Kia Sonet has the maximum boot space, but the Hyundai Venue is almost as good and overall is a better car after its recent upgrade a few months ago.You can opt for the 1.0 turbo petrol with the DCT option, which will serve you well both in the city and on the highway. Since all the options you have listed are compact SUVs, rear seat space is not the best, and though three passengers are manageable, it will be a tight squeeze.

I'm planning to buy a new car in the next few months. I was really looking forward to the new Seltos. But I'm not satisfied with what it has to offer. I was expecting a powered tailgate, which it doesn't have; they let go of the air filter, no hybrid powertrain, and apparently, the quality is not up to par with what we expect from Kia. Right now, Tata Sierra feels like a good choice, but I'm not so sure of Tata's reliability and the new turbo-petrol engine. I can also go electric. Need advice.

Some of the features you find missing in the new Kia Seltos, like the powered tailgate, are available in the Sierra, which is packed to the gills with equipment and looks and feels very premium. Besides, the Tata Sierra has a strong and smooth 1.5 turbo-petrol engine allied to confident handling, which makes it enjoyable to drive.Yes, the Sierra is a good choice, and we can understand your concerns about reliability, which are well-founded. Tata Motors is working hard to change the negative perception of its reliability and is hoping that the quality culture and processes at the ex-Ford Sanand plant, where the Sierra is made, will result in better reliability.

I currently own a Grand i10 diesel manual, which has been a very good car with excellent mileage. However, I now want to shift to an automatic transmission as most of my driving is in city traffic. My monthly running is around 1,200 km, with an outstation trip once every three months. My budget is ₹13-14 lakh. Please suggest a suitable automatic car. I am confused about whether to choose diesel or petrol.

We can understand that after driving a diesel car, you appreciate the great mileage they offer. However, if you want to switch to a diesel automatic, consider the Tata Nexon and Mahindra XUV 3XO diesels, which provide automatic transmissions and are within your budget. However, both the Tata and Mahindra diesels come with an AMT automatic transmission, which is not very smooth and has a noticeable lag when changing gears. On the highway, you have to plan your overtaking manoeuvres. If you are not too fixated on diesel, we suggest looking at the Honda Amaze, which has a CVT gearbox that is much smoother for city driving, good enough for the highway, and reasonably efficient.
