Hi, I’m planning to buy a petrol manual car under Rs. 10 lakhs, and I’ve shortlisted two options: Hyundai i20 Sportz Skoda Kylaq Classic+ I’m confused between choosing more features vs a better engine and SUV-like driving feel. In the i20, I’m getting features like: Digital instrument cluster Wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay Reverse camera Rear AC vents Rear defogger Auto climate control Hill hold assist Whereas the Kylaq offers: Better engine performance Stronger driving dynamics SUV feel and a higher seating position But it misses some basic convenience features. I’m also a new driver, so ease of driving, comfort, confidence, and long-term ownership matter to me. My usage is mixed: The office is only 3 km from home, so sometimes I’ll use my bike And for occasional highway family/friends trips Which one would you recommend for my use case and why?

Mixed city runs with very short commutes, a new driver, and a hard Rs. 10 lakh cap point to the Hyundai i20 Sportz manual. It will be easier to live every day. The car is smaller and easier to park, the steering and clutch feel light, and the features you’ve listed reduce stress in traffic and while reversing. Hyundai’s wide service network also helps long-term peace of mind.

On occasional highway trips, it feels stable and comfortable for a small family, but its engine won't feel as enthusiastic as the Kylaq’s. With five people and luggage, you will need to plan quick passes. You also won’t get the high seating of an SUV.

Pick the Skoda Kylaq Classic+ only if you care more about strong highway pull and that higher, SUV-style view than you do about convenience features. It is more enjoyable on open roads and feels more solid at speed, but the base trim skips some everyday comforts.

For your mix and confidence as a new driver, the i20 Sportz fits best.

The Hyundai i20 IVT is one of the best fits for Mumbai city driving. The IVT automatic is extremely smooth in traffic, the cabin feels genuinely premium, reliability is strong, and it is comfortable enough for four adults while still being easy to park and manoeuvre in the city.If you prefer a sedan, the Honda Amaze CVT is a good choice too. The CVT is smooth, Honda’s reliability reputation is excellent, and the rear-seat comfort is better than the i20 if you regularly travel with four to five adults. It also feels more relaxed on occasional highway trips.If rear-seat space and overall width for five passengers matter more, then the Mahindra XUV 3XO automatic is worth considering, even if it means choosing a lower variant. It feels more substantial, has a wider rear bench and is more comfortable for five adults than the i20 or Amaze. The downside is that it will not feel as feature rich as the i20 or Amaze, and fuel efficiency is not as strong either.

Go for the Hyundai i20 Sportz MT for your needs. The hatchback has a spacious and comfy cabin, a premium interior, and it is very easy to drive thanks to its light controls. The 1.2-litre petrol engine is smooth, peppy and reasonably efficient too, while the slick 5-speed manual and the light clutch make driving in the city easy. The i20 is also fairly compact, so driving in narrow lanes and parking will not be an issue either. Also coming from your i10, the i20 will feel like an upgrade while still keeping you in the Hyundai family. The i20 has proven to be reliable, and Hyundai's service centres are widespread in the country, so your ownership experience will be stress free.

You should consider the Skoda Kylaq Prestige MT for your needs.Like your Ford Figo diesel, the Kylaq has impressive ride and handling balance, and it feels sure-footed on the move. The suspension handles bad patches well, and it stays steady at high speeds. The 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine is also punchy, much like the Figo diesel's, and it comes paired with a slick 6-speed manual gearbox. The Kylaq has even received a full, 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP.Do note, though, the Kylaq won't have the same low-end grunt like the Figo diesel, and it won't be as efficient either. If you still wish for a torquey diesel engine in a hatchback, go for the Tata Altroz Accomplished S.

The BMW iX1 is a solid luxury EV and does exactly what you would expect from the brand. It offers a premium cabin, good rear seat space and a polished ownership experience. But as an EV package, it feels more conservative and less exciting than the BYD.The Sealion 7 feels like the more ambitious product. The cabin technology is richer, the battery pack is significantly larger, the range is stronger, and overall, it feels like a more modern and more complete EV. In terms of sheer EV sophistication, it has the edge.On comfort, it depends on what you value. The BMW has the softer, more traditional luxury car ride, especially at lower speeds. The BYD feels more spacious and more special inside, but the ride is firmer over sharper bumps.

I am planning to buy the Honda City facelift that was launched yesterday. How does it compare with the Volkswagen Virtus? I am also assuming that the government will continue supporting E20 fuel even if E85 is introduced in the future. So, is it still safe to buy a petrol vehicle in Delhi/NCR?

The new City facelift does make a stronger case now because Honda has added genuinely useful features like a larger infotainment screen and ventilated front seats, while pricing has remained fairly sensible. But fundamentally, the character of the car has not changed.Against the VW Virtus, the choice still comes down to personality. The Virtus is the more fun to drive option, especially with the turbo petrol engines, because it feels stronger, more eager and more engaging from behind the wheel. The City, on the other hand, is the more balanced sedan. The 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol is smooth, refined and easy to live with, but if outright performance is your priority, it will not feel as quick as the turbo Virtus. The City hybrid changes that equation because it is genuinely quick and can match the 1.5 TSI for straight line pace, but it is still not what you would call an enthusiast’s car.On the fuel front, yes, it is safe to buy a petrol car in Delhi NCR. Current mainstream petrol cars are already E20 compatible, and even if India eventually pushes toward higher ethanol blends, that transition will be gradual rather than an overnight switch. Beyond a certain point, if the country were to move meaningfully toward very high blends like E85, manufacturers would need proper flex fuel engines engineered for that fuel, and the government would also need to continue offering lower blend fuel options during any transition.

These two serve very different needs, so the right answer depends on what matters more to you. If fuel efficiency, long-term practicality and genuine seven-seat comfort are your priorities, the Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid is the clear winner. It is vastly more efficient, the third row is actually usable for adults, and overall family comfort is on another level compared to the 7XO.However, the Mahindra XUV 7XO is the more value-packed and emotionally appealing choice. It is significantly more affordable for what it offers, feels more premium inside, and is much better equipped. If you want SUV presence, it delivers that in a way the Hycross simply does not. The petrol and diesel engines are both strong performers too.Where the Mahindra falls short is in practicality. The third row is cramped and really only works for very short journeys, and unlike the Hycross, you cannot slide the middle row to improve space at the back. Fuel efficiency, whether you choose the petrol or even the diesel, is also nowhere near the Hycross too.
