•19wI own an Ignis Alpha AMT, purchased for its mileage, low service cost, and city-friendly driving. My daily usage is around 50 km, but even after two years, I get only 9 km/l in the city and 14 km/l on highways, far below ARAI claims. I drive in auto mode in the city and manual on highways. Being a top variant, it still misses ADAS, 360° camera, hill-hold assist, rear AC vents, and charging points. Kindly suggest ways to improve mileage or a safer hatchback with better mileage and features within ₹10 lakh.

Fuel efficiency is very dependent on driving style, and there are 7 ways to get better fuel economy from your car.
A key method is to use ‘lift and coast’, meaning you should anticipate traffic and ease off the throttle early, like when approaching a red light. This helps you coast before braking, reducing fuel consumption.
However, if you’d prefer a newer, more fuel-efficient car, then the Maruti Suzuki Swift or the Dzire are good options. Both of these Maruti Suzuki cars deliver well on efficiency and come in under your ₹10 lakh budget.
