I currently own a Ford Figo Titanium TDCi, which I love. However, it’s now 11 years old, so I’m planning to buy a new automatic SUV with good power. Most of my drives are on highways, and my budget is around ₹20 lakh.

Since your Figo is a diesel and most of your driving is on highways, we assume you’d like to continue with diesel. The Mahindra Scorpio N comes with a powerful 2.2-litre diesel engine and is a great highway car. However, at your budget you'll only get a low-spec model, and its tough, ladder frame construction, while great on the highway, has its disadvantages around town.
A better-equipped and more refined option at the same price is the Kia Seltos, which is also quite fun to drive.

Please suggest a new SUV up to Rs 10 lakhs. My running is between 300-500km per month, & occasionally a long drive.

You can consider the Tata Punch, which is a sub-compact SUV that is priced under Rs 10 lakh. The Punch is a spacious car for its size with a good ride quality and a tough build quality. It is also well-equipped, with top-spec variants featuring a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a sunroof, auto climate control, wireless phone charger and much more, and has received a 5-star crash safety rating from Bharat NCAP.The Punch is available with an 88hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that can be had with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox. This same engine also powers the CNG variants, which can be had with a manual or an AMT gearbox.Tata also introduced a new 120hp, 1.2-litre turbo petrol with a 6-speed manual with the Punch facelift. Tata Punch prices range from Rs 6.22 lakh to Rs 12.30 lakh (on-road, Delhi).

I am 62 years old. My driving is mostly on highways, and my yearly driving is about 10,000 km. I have shortlisted the Kia Seltos HTK(O) automatic IVT petrol and the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder Neo Drive G automatic petrol. Please give suggestions between the two.

Of the two options you've shortlisted, the Kia Seltos HTK (O) with the CVT automatic is the better choice for you. It is more spacious and comfortable, and its powertrain is smoother and more powerful, too. Moreover, it is a newer car with a more up-market cabin, including modern tech and features. It's also far more spacious - both in the rear seat and the boot - and better for five passengers. It's an easy SUV to drive, too, with a tall seating position and good visibility. The one advantage the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has is that its real-world fuel efficiency is a bit better. But on every other front, the Kia Seltos comes out on top.

I am planning to buy a new car, and I require that it should be automatic, have ADAS Level 2 features, and have a good safety rating. My budget is ₹20 lakh. My monthly usage is around 750 km within the city and 600 km on highways. I am interested in electric cars, but the real-world range should be above 250 kilometres.

Within your budget, and given your requirements, you should consider the VinFast VF6. It is perhaps the best VFM electric car on the market today, with even the top-spec Wind Infinity version coming in at around Rs 20 lakh, on road. Its large 59.6kWh battery has an NEDC range rating of 480km, which should easily translate to more than 300km in real-world usage. Plus, it is powerful, with 204hp on tap, and has a comfortable ride and solid feel. Moreover, this VinFast car is loaded with features, including ADAS with Level 2 autonomous driving, which is difficult to get in an electric car at your budget otherwise. And finally, the Vinfast VF6 has scored 5 stars in Bharat NCAP crash test ratings.

My father is planning to buy a new car and, after extensive research, he has finalized the Honda Elevate ADV DT (automatic). However, we are wondering if it would be worth waiting for the new Renault Duster before making the final decision. We are based in Nagpur and currently drive a 2011 Swift diesel. Our running is not very high, so we are now preferring a petrol automatic for better ease of driving and convenience. We test drove the Honda Elevate, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta, and he liked the Elevate the most. He especially appreciated the seating stance and felt it offered a proper SUV-like driving position and commanding feel, whereas the others, although feature-rich, didn’t give him the same SUV feel. Our priorities are comfort, reliability, ease of driving in city traffic, and a strong SUV-like feel. Would it be worth waiting for the new Renault Duster, or is the Elevate CVT a good choice to proceed with?

If your father likes the Honda Elevate, he should go ahead with it. It's a practical, reliable, no-nonsense SUV that gets its fundamentals absolutely right; it merely lacks a bit of flash value compared to rivals. It perfectly suits your requirements of comfort, reliability, ease of driving around town, and SUV-like feel. Moreover, it's got one of the best naturally aspirated petrol engines in the segment, which is equal parts efficient, relaxed and fun, and it's mated to a smooth CVT automatic. As for the Renault Duster, it does seem like a good choice on paper. It does fulfill your requirements of a tall seating stance and commanding feel, but other than that, it is an unknown quantity - especially in terms of ease of city driving and reliability. We would recommend going ahead with the Honda Elevate.
