I want to upgrade from my current car to an SUV, but I am confused between the Mahindra Scorpio N, Tata Harrier, and Mahindra XUV 7XO. During the rainy season, I occasionally have to drive on a slippery uphill stretch that my current Hyundai i10 is unable to handle. My budget is around Rs. 23 lakh. Which would be the most suitable choice for my requirements?

For your requirement, the Mahindra Scorpio N would be our first recommendation. The key reason is that you have specifically mentioned a slippery hill climb during the rainy season. The Scorpio N's Rear Wheel Drive architecture, higher ground clearance and more rugged SUV underpinnings give it an advantage in low-grip situations compared to the Harrier and XUV 7XO. If your budget allows, even a 4WD variant would be worth considering. Based on our real-world tests, Mahindra Scorpio N mileage averaged 8.65kpl for the petrol automatic and 10.15kpl for the diesel automatic, while the petrol manual returned 7.3kpl.

The XUV 7XO would be our second choice. As an overall product, it is the most modern of the three, with a better interior, more technology and a more premium feel. It is also more comfortable and easier to drive every day than the Scorpio N. However, if that slippery hill climb is a recurring part of your ownership experience, the Scorpio N's more rugged nature gives it the edge. The Mahindra Scorpio-N price starts at Rs. 13.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), and the Mahindra XUV 7XO price is Rs. 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

The Tata Harrier is a good highway SUV with a comfortable ride, but for your specific requirement it would be our third choice. It is Front Wheel Drive only and, apart from offering a more comfortable third row, the XUV 7XO is the stronger product in most other areas, including performance, technology, interior quality and overall ownership experience.

Hi, Between the Tata Harrier Petrol MT Smart and Pure X variants, which one is better if I leave out the sunroof option? My usage is only around 200-400 km per month, but I want to have a bigger vehicle.

Even though the Harrier's turbo-petrol engine isn't very efficient, it is still the right choice for you, given your low running of 200-400 km a month. There is a significant price difference between the two cars, with the Smart variant being more affordable. However, the Smart lacks several features (which the Pure X gets) that make day-to-day usage much more comfortable and convenient. Besides the sunroof, the Pure X gets electrically adjustable and foldable outside mirrors, auto headlamps and wipers, a reversing camera, an infotainment screen with steering controls, among others. So yes, if it falls within your budget, it is worth stretching for the Pure X.

The Clavis wasn’t part of your shortlist, but with seven members in the family, it is worth adding to the list. It makes more sense than the Seltos or Hyryder because you get a genuinely usable third row without making a major compromise on your budget, as it is around the same price. It also suits your very low running costs better than a hybrid, while offering easy city driving and relatively low running and maintenance costs.If you specifically want an SUV, the Mahindra XUV 7XO would be the next option. It offers stronger performance, a more substantial SUV feel and better highway ability, although it is larger and will cost more to run.The Seltos and Hyryder remain good five-seaters, but with seven people in the family, the third row will eventually become a requirement rather than a luxury.

I have shortlisted two cars based on my preferences: the Innova Hycross and XUV 7XO. I am confused between the two. Go for the Toyota Innova Hycross strong hybrid. With your daily running of 15-20 km and occasional 60-70 km trips, a diesel does not make financial sense, and the hybrid will give you significantly better fuel efficiency in city driving than petrol. The Hycross is also the more comfortable and spacious 7-seater, with a proven Toyota ownership experience and lower long-term maintenance costs. The XUV 7XO is the better driver's car, offers more features and has a more premium cabin, but for your usage pattern, the Hycross strong hybrid is the more sensible and hassle-free choice.

I am new to driving and am looking for a sub-4-metre petrol SUV with a torque converter automatic gearbox. My budget is around Rs 12-13 lakh on-road. I have shortlisted two options: the Skoda Kylaq Signature automatic and the Mahindra XUV 3XO MX2 Pro automatic. We are a family of five. Which car should I buy among Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Petrol base or Kia Seltos petrol base? And also tell me if anyone has faced power issue or pickup issue while overtaking as I want the car for long term.

Between the two, the Seltos is the better choice, especially if you are looking at the base variant. It feels more premium, is the newer product and offers a more complete package even in its lower variants.The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol makes 115hp and 144Nm. It isn't a particularly powerful engine, but it is smooth and refined and is perfectly adequate for normal city driving.For overtaking, it won't have the punch of the Seltos turbo, but it isn't underpowered either. With a full load and during quick highway overtakes, you may need to plan ahead and use higher revs. The Grand Vitara's 1.5 petrol is also a smooth, simple powertrain, but its performance is more relaxed and the base variant is quite sparsely equipped.
