I am planning to buy the Kia Seltos HTX variant with the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. I am confused between choosing the manual transmission or the IVT automatic. I have been driving manual cars for 15+ years, and my monthly driving is around 500km, mostly within the city. Please advise which transmission would suit me better. Also, does Kia’s IVT have issues similar to a DCT?

The Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 petrol with a CVT automatic transmission (IVT) is a good option for you since you drive quite a bit in the city. The 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine is refined, and the IVT gearbox is seamless and responsive. Also, a CVT gives you more convenience than a manual, and it will be more reliable than a dual-clutch transmission (DCT), too.

Hello, I have a budget of around ₹18 lakh and am looking for a petrol car that will be used mostly for city driving (around 90%) and occasional highway trips (around 10%), usually once or twice a month. My approximate running is around 500 km per month. I am currently inclined towards the Kia Seltos HTX Automatic and the Toyota Hyryder NeoDrive V AT. I have two questions. Firstly, considering my usage and budget, which one would be better for long-term ownership and a comfortable driving experience? Secondly, which SUV is more reliable in terms of after-sales service and maintenance costs? Please advise.

Both are excellent choices, but do bear in mind that the on-road prices of both SUVs would work out to over Rs 19 lakh. As for picking between the two, we would lean more towards the Kia Seltos HTX 1.5 IVT. It's the newer and more modern option with more advanced onboard tech, it is larger and has a far more spacious cabin with comfier seats and higher-quality materials, and its 1.5-litre petrol engine is more powerful than the Toyota's, which will come in handy both around town and on your occasional highway trips. Though the Hyryder is comfy enough, the new Seltos is comfier still and feels more stable at higher speeds too. In terms of long-term ownership, both SUVs should have good resale value, and Kia and Toyota offer a strong aftersales and service experience. What works in Urban Cruiser Hyryder's favour is, its slightly lower maintenance costs from the Maruti-sourced powertrain, and better fuel efficiency too. On balance, however, we feel the Kia Seltos is the better all rounder, and the one you should pick.

My daily running is around 70 km. I’m confused between the Kia Seltos Diesel and Victoris CNG. My budget is under 15L. I’m hesitant about buying a diesel car, considering the discussions regarding future regulations and norms. Kindly suggest a perfect option.

For your usage of around 70 km daily, running costs become very important, and since you are also hesitant about diesel due to future regulations, it makes more sense to go for the Maruti Suzuki Victoris CNG.With this kind of running, CNG will be significantly more efficient and cost-effective compared to a modern diesel. Due to stricter emission norms, diesel cars are not as efficient as they used to be, so the cost advantage over CNG is no longer as strong as before. The Victoris CNG will help you keep running costs low while still offering a smooth and reliable ownership experience. One of the usual drawbacks of CNG cars is the loss of boot space, but in the case of the Victoris, this is less of a compromise. The CNG cylinder is smartly packaged under the boot floor, where the spare wheel would usually sit, so you still retain a usable boot. The only trade-off is that the car does not get a spare wheel, and instead comes with a puncture repair kit.The Kia Seltos diesel, on the other hand, is the better choice in terms of performance and driving experience, especially on highways. But given your hesitation towards diesel and the higher running costs compared to CNG, it may not be the most suitable option for your needs.
