Hi Autocar, I live in Bengaluru, and my daily travel is around 35 km in moderate to very heavy traffic. I am looking for a premium EV for both city and highway use, and it will be my primary car. I am really confused between the Mahindra XEV 9e and XEV 9S (also considering the VinFast VF7). My priorities are driving feel, comfort, and a good ownership experience. Your advice would be very helpful. Thank you.

If you are looking for a good used luxury car, check out the Mercedes GLA or the BMW X1. Stick with the current generation models and look for the one that is around 4 to 5 years old. You can consider buying from organized pre owned car sellers like Spinny. You may pay a bit more than the open market but you will get cars that are thoroughly checked and with warranty too. If you are looking at the Mahindra XEV 9E, make sure you have a provision to charge it at home or your place of work as relying solely on the public network isn't really feasible. Also, if your highway runs are more than 350 odd kms and involve mountain roads, you might have to stop for a charge too. So make sure your route has plenty of charging options.

The VinFast VF6 and VF7 are interesting new options in the growing EV market. The brand’s rapid expansion has already made it the fourth-largest EV maker in India. While some success comes from initial hype, the products offer impressive value for money. The VF6 and VF7 also stand out because of their distinctive and modern designs.Although ownership feedback is still limited, current owners seem largely satisfied with their vehicles. Many owners have especially appreciated the performance, solid build quality, and comfortable ride quality. However, the real-world driving range appears slightly lower compared to some established rivals. One advantage of EVs is that they generally require very little regular maintenance. VinFast’s service network is currently limited, but Delhi should still offer adequate support coverage.As an alternative, you could also consider the Hyundai Creta Electric for your requirements. Since you already own a Hyundai, the ownership experience may feel more familiar and convenient. Hyundai’s widespread after-sales network could also provide greater peace of mind during long-term ownership. Within your budget, you would likely get a lower-spec variant with the smaller battery pack. Even then, the Creta Electric remains reasonably well-equipped for everyday driving requirements. As a second car mainly for city use, its driving range should feel sufficient.The Creta Electric is also highly efficient, while offering better space and everyday practicality. It may not feel as distinctive or quirky as the VinFast models. However, as a practical and dependable EV, the Creta Electric performs its role very well.

You need a car for pure highway use and want the longest stretch between stops; in that case, we would lean towards the Mahindra XEV 9S 79kWh for its better real-world highway range. In our real-world testing, we managed 477 km on the highway, which suits your “pure highway” pattern. We have also tested the AWD Harrier EV, which managed 401 km (combined). While the RWD version should better that, it will likely still fall short of the XEV 9S’s range.One thing to note: the Mahindra’s ride can feel a bit floaty on undulating highway surfaces, so try it out before you commit. If that is an issue, the XEV 9e has a more settled ride.Overall, for highway-first use and maximum range, the XEV 9S 79kWh is the safer bet.

Going by your shortlist, you want a bigger family car on a tight budget and are looking at base trims. If you need the car in the next couple of months for mostly city use with some weekend trips, pick the Kia Seltos HTE (O) IVT. It is well equipped and, compared to the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, gives you more back-seat space and boot room.The Brezza update will be relatively minor, though we expect the 1.5 NA engine to make way for the 1.0 turbo-petrol from the Fronx. Waiting for it only makes sense if you mainly drive in tight city areas and want an easier-to-park car.Overall, for a near-term purchase and everyday comfort, the Seltos lines up best with what you’re considering.

Both perform very well for your requirements, but overall, the Skoda Kylaq is the better choice. The Citroen C3 X has a slightly comfier ride quality, its AC performance is very strong, and its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is quite punchy. However, the Kylaq's 1.0 TSI engine is more powerful, and the 6-speed automatic gearbox has been tuned for even greater responses. As such, it will feel more eager on ghats and highways. It too has excellent suspension and absorbs bumps and broken roads well. Moreover, the Kylaq sits in a segment above and hence offers more space in the back seat and the boot, which will be useful for your passengers and luggage. Moreover, the build quality is stronger, the interior feels more upmarket, and though it may be more expensive, there are more features on offer than in the Citroen. Hence, we recommend that you go with the Skoda.
