Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim and his teammate Dilantha Malagamuwa took the lead of the title standings of the 2015 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series after securing a third place finish at the Shanghai International Circuit.
With a typhoon hitting the outskirts of Shanghai the conditions varied drastically and the team got caught out in qualifying under changing weather conditions. Armaan qualified 5th and Dilantha 6th for Race 1 and Race 2 respectively.
The race also started amidst treacherous conditions with torrential rain pounding the circuit. Armaan moved up steadily and passed a couple of cars to finish his stint in third place before handing over the car to Dilantha who maintained his position till the chequered flag to take a well-deserved podium.
In Race 2, Armaan started sixth on the grid and dropped right down to 18th place post the first corner after being hit from behind. An amazing fight back followed with Armaan passing 15 cars to slot himself into third before handing the car over to Dilantha during the pitstop. With conditions worsening, Dilantha unfortunately spun with a few laps to go, losing out two places to eventually finish 5th.
Armaan said, “The conditions were very difficult and it was a gamble to get the set up right for the type of track conditions that prevailed. Starting fifth on the grid and passing the cars ahead was difficult as the water spray from the cars in front kept me almost blinded throughout and with the rain getting harder, the car was aquaplaning quiet badly which allowed the leader to pull away.”
“Given the situation we were in a 3rd place Podium was a good result to walk away with and earn vital Championship points to try and keep our lead in the Championship.”, he added.
