Go for the Tata Sierra EV Adventure 2WD 63kWh. Your usage is city-heavy with occasional highway runs, and rear seat comfort is a priority. The Sierra EV is the better fit here. Though it is the smaller SUV overall, it has a rear seat that's as spacious and comfortable if not more than the Harrier's. The Harrier EV Fearless Plus 2WD 65kWh is a good car, but it is a larger, heavier SUV whose added size will give you no great advantage. The Sierra EV is also more efficient in city driving and easier to manoeuvre, while still offering enough range for your occasional highway trips.Since both cars are priced similarly due to discounts, the Sierra EV is the more sensible choice for your usage pattern and comfort requirements. Do note, however, that with over 1,500km of use per month, an electric car will require frequent charging, so make sure you have home charging in place, and also note that frequent charging will take its toll on battery health sooner.

Pick the Creta Electric. For your Rs 25-27 lakh budget, it is the safest bet, and Hyundai’s huge service network will make long-term ownership hassle free. As an EV, it is smooth, quiet and quick enough, and Hyundai’s software and battery management have been trouble-free for most owners, which matters more than a flash spec sheet five years down the line. It is also known to reliably deliver the closest real-world range to its official rating amongst its peers, thanks to a highly efficient powertrain. The Harrier EV and XEV 9S are tempting for space and power, but are likely to sit higher than your budget and have been known to have some niggles especially in the software and electronics departments. The Sierra EV has now been launched and is certainly worth considering. It offers a larger battery, a spacious cabin and a premium overall package. However, being a brand-new product, we'd prefer to wait and see how it settles in before recommending it over the more established Creta Electric. You should also expect a waiting period on popular variants.Another EV you could consider is the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. Though not as spacious as the others, nor as efficient, being from the house of Maruti Suzuki, it is expected to offer hassle-free reliability and a smooth ownership experience.

With 70% city use in Brahmavar/Mangalore, 1,000-1,500 km a month, and a family of three plus a large dog, the Kia Seltos diesel automatic fits best. Diesel makes sense for your running. Your 30% highway mix each month helps keep the DPF system healthy, so city use should not be a worry. If most daily trips are very short stop-start runs, petrol is simpler, but your usage suits diesel better.For reliability and ease in the city, the Seltos is the most proven and the easiest to steer and park. The trade-off is space: the boot will take a big dog, but dog plus large suitcases may be tight. The Kia Seltos 1.5 NA petrol seems to be the right fit as a family car. It suits your low monthly use, is easy to drive every day, and it'll feel like a huge step up from your Swift in space, comfort and modernity. The Tata Harrier and Tata Sierra are larger and heavier cars, and their 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine isn't likely to be as fuel-efficient as the Kia either. Also, while they're wider, which makes them more suited to ferry three adults abreast in the back, for everyday use, these could feel relatively more cumbersome to drive and park in the city. For your use and budget, the Seltos NA petrol seems ideal. You could also consider the CVT automatic version for a smoother, more effortless drive.
