Skoda Superb gets 1.6 TDI engine

Skoda has added Volkswagen Group’s 1.6 TDI engine to the Superb range in international markets such as Britain. The 104bhp engine replaces the 1.9 TDI motor. The 1.6’s power and torque outputs are the same as the 1.9’s, but the new 1.6 engine is considered to be more emission friendly and fuel efficient than the 1.9 motor.

The UK market gets the new 1.6 TDI so far only with the 5-speed manual gearbox. India already gets the Superb with 1.8 TSI manual transmission (Petrol), 1.8 TSI Automatic Transmission, 2.0 TDI CR Automatic Transmission (Diesel) and the 3.6 V6 FSI 4×4 Automatic Transmission.

The Superb range in India starts at Rs. 18,28,563 for the entry level 1.8 TFSI model and tops at Rs Rs. 26,38,282 for the fully loaded 3.6 FSI version. (Prices Ex-Showroom Delhi). If launched, the new 1.6 TDI CR motor can be slotted as the new entry level engine for the Superb range in India.
