The A-class, which Mercedes-Benz India launched on May 30, has received over 400 confirmed bookings. The company said claiming the number represents the highest bookings for a Mercedes car in India.
Eberhard Kern, managing director and CEO, said, “Already a global sensation, the success of the A-class in India reiterates Mercedes-Benz’s stand that young India has now come of age and Indians who lead a global lifestyle today value trendy design, dynamic driving and quality when it comes to their personal mobility preferences.”
Based on the MFA architecture, the A-class carries an introductory ex-showroom, Mumbai price of Rs 21,93,500 for the diesel (A180 CDI Style) variant and Rs 22,73,500 for the petrol (A180 Sport).
The ‘cheapest’ luxury car in India till the A-class’ arrival was the BMW’s X1 (launched three years ago) which has a price tag of Rs 28.3 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). At the Mumbai launch, Kern said that the A-class is also one of the safest cars available with 11 drive assistance systems and is India’s most fuel efficient luxury car with 1,000km run on a full tank of diesel, having a Cd of 0.27.
