Genesis, Hyundai’s luxury brand, has previewed its BMW 3-series and Audi A4 rival at the New York auto show with a hybrid sedan concept, christened the New York Concept.
This is the first Genesis model to appear since a new design team headed by ex-Bentley design chief Luc Donckerwolke took over at the company.

Sticking to the ‘athletic elegance’ theme at Genesis, the New York Concept features a long bonnet with a sporty cab-rearward design. It is understood to be a precursor to the G70 sedan.
“A proper front engine and rear drive layout with a long dash-to-axle distance is essential to our luxury design language,” explains Donckerwolke.
Prominent styling cues also include the front and rear door handles that sit flush with the body sides, and the integrated vents on the hood and fenders that lend the car a sporty character.

The cabin is dominated by a curved, 21-inch floating screen that incorporates both conventional driver instruments and multimedia functions. The car has an open steering wheel, shaped to maximise view of the instruments.

Power is derived from a 242bhp and 33.45kgm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that drives the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The engine works in combination with a 100bhp electric motor, making for a sporty 342bhp on tap in total.
