BMW 7-series ActiveHybrid.

BMW has launched the 7-series ActiveHybrid, India's first luxury hybrid sedan at a starting price of Rs 1.35 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). Imported to the Indian market as a CBU, the 7-series ActiveHybrid is BMW’s first hybrid model here. The car first made its international appearance at the 2009 Frankfurt auto show.

The 7-series ActiveHybrid is powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol engine, good for 320bhp and 45.8kgm of torque. The twin-turbocharged engine is mated to a 40KW electric motor that makes 55bhp and 21.4kgm of torque. A ZF eight-speed automatic gearbox sends power to the rear wheels, and sprint from 0-100kph is claimed at 5.7 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 250kph. The 7-series ActiveHybrid can run for up to 60kph on the electric motor alone. So, your drive to work can be quiet and clearn.

The new BMW 7-series ActiveHybrid will join the 7-series line up, which includes the 730 Ld, 750 Li and the top-end 760 Li. It is priced slightly lower than the 750 Li.

BMW is planning to increase its sales outlets in the country from 37 to 50 by the end of 2015.
