Japanese carmaker Nissan has unveiled its next-generation Sunny sedan. The Sunny is a global model for Nissan and is badged 'Versa' or 'Almera' in international markets.

Built on the brand’s updated V platform that also underpins the international-spec Kicks SUV, the new Nissan Sunny draws design inspiration from the Altima and Lannia sedans. At the front, it is fitted with Nissan’s signature V-shaped front grille with thinner and more angular headlights in comparison to the outgoing car. It also gets a new design for the alloy wheels, a larger rear door and a floating roof design as seen on the Kicks.

The cabin of the new Sunny is almost identical to the Kicks SUV. There's a large ‘floating’ touchscreen infotainment system in the centre console, below which are the HVAC controls. Also borrowed from the Kicks is the steering wheel and the soft-touch leather inserts on the dashboard. Higher variants – at least the international models – are expected to get a digital instrument cluster.

Nissan will launch the Sunny with the 124hp, 1.6-litre petrol engine that does duty in the international-spec Kicks. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic gearbox.

Nissan is yet to make an announcement about the next-gen Sunny's launch in India. However, if and when the model does make it here, it is expected to get the option of a diesel engine as well and will rival the Honda City, the Hyundai Vernathe Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the Toyota Yaris. The current-gen Nissan Sunny is still on sale in India and is priced between Rs 6.99 lakh to Rs 9.94 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
