Following its debut in concept guise in August this year, a camouflaged test mule of the Mahindra Scorpio N-based pickup truck has now been spied testing in India for the first time. Dubbed the Global Pik Up concept, it was showcased in South Africa, which is the primary market for this model, alongside Australia.

  2. Test mule's design toned down from concept
  3. India launch to follow South Africa and Australia

Mahindra Scorpio N-based pickup truck spied

The camouflaged test mule of the Scorpio N-based pickup has ditched all the wild styling elements of the concept, like the aggressive bumpers, flared wheel arches and extended side steps, and it now gets a very basic double-cab layout with a load bed.

We haven't got a proper look at the front end of the pickup truck, but it appears largely unchanged from the regular Scorpio N up until the front doors. What’s certainly different are the rear doors and repositioned rear wheels, thereby giving it the lengthened wheelbase that would be required to accommodate the load bed.

The tailgate for the cargo bed has a centrally located handle, with vertically stacked temporary tail-lamps – that seem to have come from the first-gen Scorpio – on either side. There’s also a rather large roll bar, although it could be toned down in the production version. Lastly, the test mule is seen riding on the same set of alloys as the regular Scorpio N.

Under the hood, the Scorpio N pickup will be powered by an updated version of Mahindra’s 2.2-litre diesel engine, mated to either a 6-speed manual or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic. It will get four-wheel drive with shift-on-the-fly capability and four drive modes: Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut and Sand.

The Scorpio N pickup will be offered with the aforementioned diesel engine in India, South Africa and Australia, and could be offered with a petrol engine in the ASEAN region where petrol pickups are in demand.

Mahindra Scorpio N pickup launch details

While the production version is still some time away, Mahindra recently patented the design of the Global Pik Up concept in India, suggesting that the model could be showcased here in the coming months. It will first go on sale in South Africa in 2025, before it's offered on sale here, and will rival the Isuzu D-Max V-Cross and the Toyota Hilux in a growing segment of lifestyle pickups and off-roaders in India.
