The Cooper S Convertible was launched at Rs 58.50 lakh (ex-showroom) as a fully imported vehicle.

The first batch of the recently launched Mini Cooper S Convertible is sold out in India. Launched at 58.50 lakh (ex-showroom), all allocations in the first batch were spoken for within just 24 hours, says Mini. Dealers are now taking pre-orders for the second batch which is scheduled to arrive in early 2026. The Mini Cooper S Convertible comes to India as a fully imported vehicle.

  1. Second batch of Cooper S Convertible expected to arrive in early 2026
  2. It’s the most affordable convertible car on sale in India
  3. Is powered by a 204hp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine

Growing popularity of niche, fun to drive vehicles

As the most affordable convertible car on sale in India, the Cooper S is quite a unique proposition for enthusiasts. While the company hasn’t specified exactly how many units were allocated in the first batch, this underscores the popularity of niche, fun-to-drive vehicles in the Rs 50-60 lakh price range. Earlier this year, limited allocations of the fully imported Skoda Octavia RS and Volkswagen Golf GTi were also quickly sold out, prompting both companies to consider a second batch for India.

What’s interesting to note is the popularity of these vehicles despite not being of the SUV body style, especially the Mini, which, with a convertible soft top has very limited practical use case scenarios in India. Conversely, the fully imported Volkswagen Tiguan R Line, which is a traditional SUV, has received lukewarm response, and was even listed with discounts of up to Rs 3 lakh at some points.

Mini Cooper S Convertible details

The Cooper S Convertible is powered by a 204hp, 300Nm 2-litre 4-cylinder turbo-petrol engine which is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, sending power to the front wheels. The 0-100kph sprint takes 6.9 seconds and it tops out at 237kph.

The electrically operated fabric roof opens and closes in 18 seconds and 15 seconds, respectively, at speeds of up to 30kph. Some standout features on the Cooper S convertible include a ‘sunroof mode’ for the roof, a circular 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, powered front seats with massaging function for the driver, head-up display, ambient lighting and a Harman Kardon sound system.
