A connected-screen setup is also visible in one of the spy shots.

A newly spotted test mule of Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming electric MPV – codenamed YMC – provides a better look at its exterior design elements. This electric MPV is expected to share much of its underpinnings with the e Vitara SUV. Like the e Vitara, the YMC electric MPV may also be sold via Maruti’s Nexa retail network.

Up front, the electric MPV appears to have wraparound LED headlamps resembling those on the Victoris, incorporating slatted daytime running lamps (DRLs) that extend downwards. There’s also a connecting element between the headlamps, but it remains to be seen if this will be an LED strip or simply some chrome/plastic trim in the final version. Being an EV, the MPV’s fascia is blanked off, save for a slim air intake right above the bumper. The bumper itself houses a wide air dam.

The electric MPV looks quite boxy and upright in profile, with a squared-off treatment for the wheel arches and glass area. At the rear, we can make out a full-width light bar with a clear lens, as well as a chunky bumper sporting a slim pair of reflectors. The test mule doesn’t seem to have a roof spoiler, so it remains to be seen whether the production version of the YMC MPV will have one.

There’s also an image providing a look at the interior of the YMC MPV prototype. Not much can be discerned in the spy shot, but we can spot a connected-screen setup akin to that of the e Vitara.

Maruti YMC electric MPV: Battery and motor

The electric MPV is expected to borrow the e Vitara’s 49kWh and 61kWh battery options. Both are paired with a 189Nm front-mounted motor, developing 144hp in the 49kWh guise and 174hp in the 61kWh spec. While the e Vitara has a claimed ARAI range of 440km for the 49kWh battery and 543km for the 61kWh unit, the YMC MPV’s larger size will likely make for lower range figures.

Maruti Suzuki may debut the YMC electric MPV by the end of 2026 and launch it in 2027. While pricing remains under wraps, the YMC MPV could target the Kia Carens Clavis EV, currently the only electric MPV under Rs 20 lakh.
