Maruti has begun work on the mid-cycle facelift of the Celerio hatchback, which is due in the coming months.  The Celerio is on sale in our market since 2014 and could be the next candidate for a refresh after the facelifted S-Cross hits our market this week.

Sources tell us that along with the facelift, Maruti is also readying a rugged variant of the Celerio. This means, the hatchback will get additional body cladding running all across its lower-body in order to make it more attractive. This would also help Maruti put in a contender in the budding cross-hathback segment in India which includes models like the KUV100 (also due to get a facelift soon), the Renault Kwid and the upcoming Ford Figo Cross that will launch sometime next year. Along with the additional cladding, Maruti is also expected to throw in slightly larger alloy wheels and roof rails to complete that crossover look.

Maruti had showcased a Celerio with body cladding at the previous Auto Expo in 2016 to gauge customer interest.

On the inside, the refreshed Celerio will get the Smartplay infotainment system and a few minor tweaks to keep things fresh. Under the hood the Celerio is likely to continue with the same 1.0-litre petrol motor.

Expect Maruti to pull the covers off the refreshed Celerio in the coming months.
