Mahindra’s XUV300, has crossed 40,000-unit sales. The milestone has been achieved in just 11 months from the compact SUV’s February 14, 2019, launch.

The model-wise sales split is, not surprisingly, in favour of diesel. For the first 10 months’ sales of 38,371 units, diesel variants comprised 27,809 units and petrol 10,562, which translates into a diesel/petrol ratio of 72:28 percent. In December 2019, the compact SUV sold 2,132 units, taking its cumulative sales to 40,503 units.

That the vehicle, pitched in the thriving compact SUV segment that accounts for nearly 40 percent of the overall SUV market, would prove to be a good draw was apparent, because within 28 days of launch, M&M had received over 13,000 bookings, constituting an average of 465 bookings a day.

The Mahindra XUV300 is based on the SsangYong Tivoli’s X100 platform, which has been modified and altered to fit within the crucial sub-four-metre length. That said, the XUV300 is still the widest compact SUV on sale and also has the longest wheelbase in its class.

The XUV300, available in four variants (W4, W6, W8 and W8 (O)), is powered by a 1.5-litre diesel (117hp and 300Nm torque) and a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine (110hp and 200Nm). The Mahindra XUV300’s fuel-efficiency figure is pegged at 17kpl for the petrol variant and 20kpl for the diesel variant.

The XUV300 also became the first BS6-compliant Mahindra vehicle to go on sale when the carmaker launched the BS6 petrol model on December 3, 2019. The company is transitioning its portfolio to BS6 emission standards in a phased manner, well ahead of the statutory timeline of April 1, 2020. The XUV300 now starts at Rs 8.30 lakh for the W4 variant to Rs 11.84 lakh for the W8 variant (ex-showroom, India).

Key rivals to the XUV300 include the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, the Tata Nexon, the Ford EcoSport and the Hyundai Venue.
