The prototype previews a US-focused performance model that will join Honda’s next-gen Civic line-up in 2017.
Honda has unveiled the Civic Si prototype at the LA auto show, previewing a performance model that will sit directly below the Type R in the US.

To be available in coupé and sedan body styles, Honda has equipped the Civic Si prototype with a turbocharged 1.5-litre engine with dual variable cam timing. The carmaker claims that the next Civic Si will be the fastest and most powerful new-generation model yet. Power output for the prototype hasn’t been revealed as of yet, but given that the 2.0-litre Type R is expected to produce over 304hp, the production Si’s engine is expected to produce something in the region of 233hp.

The prototype’s engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that sends drive to the front wheels via a limited-slip differential. The Si also gets a new active damper system and active steering.

The Si prototype has a factory performance aero kit made up of a rear spoiler and front and rear splitters. The 19-inch 10-spoke forged alloy wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes T1 Sport and a centrally-mounted exhaust complete the performance look. Interior features include a pair of sports seats in the front with black upholstery and red stitching, aluminium pedals, and a dry metal carbon-covered instrument panel.

For India, Honda is reportedly considering the possibility of re-introducing the Civic brand with the current 10th-gen sedan model, though it is unlikely that we will receive the Si or the Type R if and when Honda decides to re-launch the brand.
