  • The 2021 6 Series GT gets refreshed styling and more equipment

  • All engines come with a 48V mild-hybrid system

  • While the model has been discontinued in a few international markets, no such announcement has been made for India

The facelift for the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (GT) has just been revealed. Updates on the 6 Series GT range from a refreshed design, improved equipment levels and mechanical improvements. BMW also continues to offer both diesel and petrol engine options internationally.

What is new on the outside?

Styling tweaks to the 6 Series GT facelift include a larger iteration of BMW’s ’kidney’ grille design, new front and rear bumpers, accompanied by new headlights and taillights. The overall design, however, remains very similar to the model it replaces, with the sloping roofline and notchback design still present and prominent.

What are the engines on offer?

For global markets, BMW will offer two petrol and three diesel engines. The petrol line-up consists of a 258hp/400Nm, 2.0-litre, four-cylinder unit in the 630i and a 333hp/450Nm, 3.0-litre, six-cylinder unit in the 640i.

The diesel options include a 190hp/400Nm, 2.0-litre engine in the 620d, while a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder engine is available in the 630d (tuned to make 286hp and 650Nm of torque) and 640d (tuned to produce 340hp and 700Nm of torque).

BMW has also fitted all the aforementioned engines with a 48V mild-hybrid system in its continued effort to electrify its entire range. This system is designed to improve fuel efficiency and it can also add 11hp to the engine outputs for a short duration to provide increased performance. It is also worth noting that all engines come paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive comes standard on the 640i, 630d and 640d.

What is new on the inside?

The overall design of the interior remains relatively unchanged, though the facelift features a larger 12.3-inch infotainment system with BMW’s latest software and a new digital instrument cluster. Other features include a four-zone automatic climate control system, electrically adjustable rear seats (optional), a panoramic sunroof, a premium Bowers & Wilkins audio system and more.

While BMW has discontinued the 6 Series Gran Turismo is some markets due to low demand, no such announcement has been made for the Indian market. Currently, the 6 Series GT is offered in three variants in India. These include a 258hp, 2.0-litre petrol in the 630i; a 190hp, 2.0-litre diesel in the 620d; and a 265hp, 3.0-litre diesel in the 630d. Its price ranges from Rs 64.90 lakh to 75.90 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
