TVS Motor Company announced the development of the ‘TVS Automatic Transmission’. It says this new technology will enhance fuel efficiency by about 20 percent compared to the conventional technology deployed today.

It will use an automatic transmission in place of the more popular Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and will change gears effortlessly through electronic control. This will enable the engine to run at its most efficient RPM and will also override the requirement of a clutch.

Commenting on the development, Harne Vinay Chandrakant, president of New Product Development, TVS Motor Company said, “The objective of this technology development is to deliver a compact engine layout that will deliver enhanced fuel efficiency and which is usable across product forms. This technology also delivers the lowest CO2 in scooters while providing for low floor board and space for luggage.”

TVS has been testing the transmission on a 110cc, four-stroke engine, and plans to apply the technology to a slew of products that are in the pipeline.
